I might have been losing my mind…
Or was it my heart?
* * *
Dinner was a riot.
Watching the three family members banter back and forth was a lot of fun. Grandpa Walter may be getting older and Ruby said his arthritis was acting up, but since I’d met him, his mind and body were spry for his age. That stubbornness she said he possessed most likely helped.
Ruby’s love for her family was the way I felt about mine and that made me feel even more drawn to her. She laughed with them and she made sure they were taken care of.
Jett acted put off that I was there at first, but then slowly warmed to the fact I was invading their home, as well as their time together. Of course, all I had to do was bring up anything music-related and the kid perked up pretty damned quickly.
It was how I found myself in the building where he practiced his music after dinner. I’d offered to help clean up but Ruby had insisted she would do it since I’d been so kind to bring dinner. I wanted to protest but the stern voice and sharp look she gave me was a clear warning not to argue with her.
Her challenging me was sexy as hell. Anything else I was going to say died in my throat and my libido came to life. My cock twitched and pants tightened. If I hadn’t gotten the hell out of there so quickly, Gramps might have been out of his chair to find his shotgun and play out the John Wayne western movie he’d settled in to watch.
So off I went with a promise from Ruby that she’d come and find me as soon as she finished up. It was something I found myself looking forward to, maybe a little too much, but I didn’t give a damn.
I’d lost track of time, music taking over as Jett played. The kid was good. Real good. Not only at eighteen could he play guitar like a seasoned pro and better than even me, but he also sang, along with writing his own songs.
The kid was born for music and my parents would eat him up.
“Would you play something?” Jett’s hopeful gaze wasn’t something I could ignore. Music had always been part of my life too and if jamming with him a bit would help us bond, I was all for it.
Having Jett and Gramps approve of me and like me was important because I wasn’t walking away from Ruby any time soon. Not only did I want to help her, but I wanted to date her. From the interest she’d shown earlier when I asked her to dinner, I was hoping she wanted the same thing.
“Sure, what did you have in mind? Let’s do something together.” Jett had a few different guitars, nice ones too. He motioned for me to pick one.
I gave him a wicked smile and started to play something to test the young man. My fingers hit the strings and I broke out with one of my parents' songs. Jett chimed in without hesitation. He gave a lopsided grin and his eyes twinkled with amusement. He’d known what I was thinking, accepted the challenge, and killed it.
As we got going I couldn’t stop the words from flowing from my lips and started to sing the song I’d sung so many times throughout my life.
Caught up in the music, I hadn’t noticed Ruby walk through the door to the side of the building, but when a tingle shot down my spine that had nothing to do with the chords I was playing, I knew she was close.
Not wanting to stop and disappoint Jett, I kept going but turned slightly in the direction of the beauty who was staring at me with a look of awe in her eyes.
At the sight of her, my breath hitched and I heard Jett chuckle beside me.
Ruby was wearing a pair of tight black yoga pants that clung to every curve of her body, showcasing her toned legs and perfect ass. Her soft yellow t-shirt emphasized her ample breasts. The whole package had been wreaking havoc on me all evening.
My gaze ran up and down her marvelous form before coming back to her eyes which danced with heated interest. I was struggling to take things slow when all I wanted to do was take her mouth with mine and feel her against me.
I had to work hard not to let out the groan wanting to slip free.
The song ended, and she clapped as Jett came up beside me.
“That was so awesome, man.” His voice was full of praise and his eyes twinkled with excitement.
In all honesty, I should have been complimenting him. Before we played I had gotten a look at some of the songs he had written and heard some stuff he was recording. Jett had an amazing setup and was uniquely talented. I may not be in the business like my parents but I’d grown up around it and I knew if he wanted a future in music he could easily have one.
“It was fun. You’re a highly accomplished musician for your age.” I slapped him on the back. “My parents are going to love you. Just wait until you meet them and you’ll see.”
His eyes widened and that twinkle he had moments before changed to shock. They also held a little bit of speculation as if he didn’t believe me.
What was it with these two not trusting that what I said is what I meant? I worked hard to follow through when I told someone I’d do something. Only under dire circumstances beyond my control would I not.
“You think I will seriously get to meet them?”.
