Who will defend me.

So I turn my back on him, and when he advances on me, wrapping his arm around my neck, I fight to get free, but it’s no use. I can’t get him to budge, and his bulging bicep is choking me out.

“You’re too strong,” I tell him, sounding defeated to my own ears.

“You can always get free,” he says, talking to us both now. “Remember to go for the eyes, the throat, the balls, and the knees.”

He spends time showing us what to do. Over and over again, he shows us moves to help us get out of his hold.

Scarlett masters the crush to the knees.

And I finally manage to poke him in the eye.

I preen when he barks out and releases me, holding his hand over said eye.

“You’re not supposed to actually blind me,” he growls, but I smile.

“That’s for saying that I would do something to hurt Rome. It bruised my feelings.”

Scarlett giggles, and Mateo blinks at me, scowling.

“If I do find out that you’re a snitch, you’ll wish you were dead.”

I roll my eyes. “Okay, bad guy.”

“Iama bad guy,” he replies. “And Rome is my brother. Hurt him, and we’ll kill you. Painfully.”

“I get it. My dad’s a mobster, remember? Now, when are you going to give us shooting lessons?” Even though I know how to use a gun, it’s not a bad idea to sharpen those skills.

“That’s Carson’s job. He’ll take you this afternoon.”

“So basically, the Kings of Vegas are teaching us self-defense,” Scarlett says with a frown. “I didn’t have thaton my bingo card, but I’m not mad about it. Also, how is this my life?”

“You’re Luke’s,” Mateo says with a shrug. “And she’s Rome’s. You’re stuck with us.”

Scarlett looks at me, and I grin at her. “Not a bad problem to have.”

Forty-Four

ROME

“Goddammit,” I grumble, watching security footage of one of my warehouses east of the city. Someone raided it last night, took my product, and set the whole thing on fire, killing six of my men and getting away with about five million dollars of my weapons.

I’ve watched it at least a dozen times, trying to see if I can make out the men who did it, their vehicles, anything, but they avoided the cameras as if they had inside information on where every camera is in the area.

And that pisses me off most of all.

“You look way too moody. And still, super hot.”

I glance up at the sound of that sexy voice and find Eloise standing in the doorway of my office in the penthouse. She’s leaning on the doorjamb, her arms crossed, in a pair of jeans that hug her delicious curves and a red tank top that gives me a view of her cleavage that makes me want to get her naked and sink inside her.

I haven’t fucked her since the morning she started her period a few days ago. She was miserable, but she seems to be feeling better now.

“Come sit on my cock and cheer me up, firefly.”

She smirks and pushes off the door, walking to me. “I wish I had time, but I’m headed down to Scarlett’s. We’re going out to lunch, but don’t freak out, we’re not leaving the property. We’re just headed over to that cute diner on Carson’s side of the resort. I hear they have good food.”

“You’re still taking guards with you.” I take her hand and tug her into my lap, bury my face in her neck, and breathe her in. “You smell fucking amazing. How was training with Mateo?”
