Fuck.I can’t.This woman has me breaking rules at every turn.

Taking a breath, I step away.“We’re leaving.”

I stride out of the room and feel her right behind me.“Buck, clean up.Floris, we’re going home.”

Floris rushes out of the warehouse ahead of me and opens the door to the limousine.I get inside and keep my gaze forward when I feel Quinn getting in beside me.

Floris gets behind the wheel and once the vehicle starts to move Quinn softly says, “Thank you.”

Shocked, I turn to face her.“For what?”

“Cleaning up my mess again.”She’s staring at her folded hands resting on her lap.“I feel like it’s all you’ve been doing since I accepted the fantasy deal.Hell, it started that night when I didn’t want the fantasy because all I wanted was you. Then you stepped in.And then also saved me when they knocked me out.I was pissed at you, but you keep doing the right thing and it’s confusing because you’re not gentle and caring at all.And I get that we’re married and having a kid, but I do want our child to grow up in a loving home.Shit.Everything is coming out wrong. What I’m trying to say is...I had doubts. So many freaking doubts.Yet, those tiny silver linings your actions have shown your integrity.I’m glad you’re my husband and the father of my child. You not only face the scary shit life throws at us, you also never back down.I like that about you.Which also means I don’t completely hate you or think you’re an egocentric asshole. You’re growing on me, Fiero Teun Reaux. Not the way fungus grows because they are decomposers, more like a plant because they are producers. You use energy to make shit and stuff and I’m rambling and probably don’t make any sense...but...thank you.”

I’m smiling and even if she doesn’t make sense, it’s clear in my mind. Not thinking things through, I reach out and take her hand to bring it close to my face to kiss her knuckles. This woman is a gem I’ve caught in the avalanche they call living.

CHAPTER TWENTY

–QUINN –

My heart jolts inside my chest. The skin on my knuckles still tingles where Fiero just planted a kiss when the limousine suddenly jerks.A gasp rips from me when I’m bumping into Fiero who places a hand on my knee to steady me.

“Keep your eyes on the damn road, Floris,” Fiero states.

Floris meets our gaze through the rearview mirror.“It’s your fault, acting all married and shit.”

“I’m not acting,” Fiero states and he gently gives my knee a little squeeze.

Okay, the tiny show of affection he just did with the kiss and knee squeeze? It’s very unlike Fiero. He hits a button to let the screen slide in place to block Floris out.

Turning to me, Fiero says, “Since we’re married, we might as well give it a fair shot, don’t you think?”

I raise one of my eyebrows.“A real marriage consists of mutual respect, good communication, and loyalty. You’re not a sappy shit man and I won’t demand for you to change or fake things.”

“Quinn.”The way he says my name causes a flock of butterflies to go crazy inside my stomach.

“Yes?”I breathe on a whisper.
