“Yeah, we’ll get to that. But just to continue the previous point, you could probably be seen withmostraces of your caste, you just can’tmateoutside your species, and it wouldn’t be good to be seen with anyone of a higher caste or lower caste.”

“Like you?”

“Exactly.”

Wow… what a world. This place may be beautiful and mystical, but it was far from idyllic.

I could almost feel how unsettled Myel was. A strangeknowingtightness in my chest. This bond thing seemed to be forming quickly. Perhaps sex had made it stronger?

“You mentioned beingprotected?”

“Yeah. You can get a contraceptive binding. Keeps you from having kids. Most people have them. They can be removed once you’re in anapprovedrelationship.”

Approved relationship, that sounded so fucking wrong.

“This binding, that’s what you have?”

He nodded.

Well at least we were good on that front. I should probably get one of those too.

So much to do.

“As for the bite,” Myel whispered, guilt lacing his voice. “I… couldn’t help myself.” After long shuddering breath, he went on, “I have a disease. Not all chiroptanthropes need blood to survive, most drain fruits for their nectar. But…”

“You need blood,” I finished. Hence… vampire.

“Yeah.”

“Anyone’s blood?”

“Ah… well…” He let out a pained sound.

What now?

“Just say it.”

“I’m not certain, but… now that we’re bonded, I have a strong suspicion I’ll needyourblood specifically. You tasted… delicious beyond anything I’ve ever known, heavenly. I get the feeling any other blood will taste like shit now.”

Great.

One more thing I’d just have to accept.

“So, just to get this all straight… we’re magically bound, which means we automatically like each other and feel comfortable with each other and will need to fuck like bunnies, but we can’t be seen together because elves are domineering assholes. Also, there’s a different sort of magical binding which can keep me from popping out babies. And finally, you need to drink my blood because this world needs even more ways to screw with me. Sound right?”

He gave a laughing sigh. “Yup. Sorry.”

“None of this is your fault.”

“Right. Sor— uh… yeah.”

I laughed as well, even if it was an exhausted thing.

“Don’t worry, we’ll find a way to make this work.” I shrugged. It wasn’t like we had a choice, and I was practical if nothing else.

He sighed, relieved and smiled. “Thanks, Izzy.”

I leaned into him a bit more, resting my head on his shoulder. He softly kissed my hair. I wasn’t one for snuggling, but with Myel, everything felt right. Again, there’d probably be freaking out later, but for now, I lumped that in with everything else I was being forced to accept.
