Though the corresponding look of horror on the Lavender Lady’s face was a bit disconcerting.
“You want me to beat some sense into her, princess?” the big man asked.
Wait. Why washecalling her princess?
Did he think she was just as stuck up as I did?
Probably not.
Which meant…
Fuck me.
“I’ll take care of her,” the other man accompanying the —apparently real — princess said, hastily pulling me away from the group.
Ouch! Fuck!
Hey buddy, watch it!
But then again, I wasn’t sure I wanted to be where I had been, so I stumbled along with him despite the pain.
To distract myself I took in the gorgeous man hauling me out of the room. Though not as tall as the giant who’d threatened tobeat some sense into me, this guy was still probably six and a half feet. He possessed bronzed skin and thick, wavy golden-blond hair. Clear blue eyes peered out from a face like a Hemsworth, square and rugged and gorgeous. His voice had been silken and soft, unthreatening. It was pretty easy to let him drag me away.
“Is she really a princess?” I asked in a whisper once we were clear of the others.
“Yes, and no one to be trifled with,” he warned.
But trifle I had.
Great.
This day was shaping up to be one hell of a shit show.
Once we were outside, the man released me.
“Sorry, hope I didn’t hurt you,” he said, brushing my arm where he’d held me. He seemed far too polite to be working for that stuck up… woman.
Did I hurt? Yes. Was it his fault? No. All of this was Rook’s fault, that damned sexy betraying sexy bastard. And yes, I know I said sexy twice.
“I’m fine,” I said, backing off a step.
“Then I suggest you stayfaraway from Princess Saldrea from now on. People have disappeared for far less of an insult than you just gave her.”
Disappeared? Fuck me.
“Thanks, I will.”
I turned and walked away — slowly… it still hurt to move — but once I was down the steps and onto the stone-paved concourse where I’d arrived, I had no idea where to go. I should be in the building behind me getting enrolled.
But I wouldn’t head back in there any time soon.
Fuck it, I chose a direction and started walking.
I certainly hoped I never saw that prissy princess again, but a squirmy feeling in my gut told me I probably wouldn’t be that lucky.
VYNSIEL
I lingered outside, watching the woman flee… slowly. She seemed like she was in pain. Curious. I couldn’t tear my gaze off her, what with her spirit blazing around her like some massive halo.
