“The way she looks at you when you're not watching, something tells me the feeling is mutual,” Joel told him.

He turned to try to catch her looking at him, but she looked away. “Huh. Never realized that,” Zaine said and picked up their drinks. “I'll think about it,” he added and walked away.

“Here you go, Angel,” he said, setting her drink in front of her.

“Thanks, Babe,” Sorcha replied and took a sip.

Maybe Joel was right, maybe she did want him for more than a friend, too. He started to speak up but stopped himself before he got the words out.

They enjoyed their drinks and then ended up back on the dance floor, bumping and grinding to the music.

“I should get out of here. Three am comes around awfully early,” Sorcha said. It was going on ten already.

“Yeah. I'll be going to bed when you're just getting up,” he said with a laugh. He walked her to the exit. “Enjoy your date tomorrow.”

“Here's hoping,” she replied and hugged him. “Good night, Zaine.”

“Good night, Sorcha,” he replied and watched her go, taking his heart with her.

Chapter Three

Sorcha

Sorcha spent the day watching the clock. She knew it was silly, she didn't even know Finley, but she was really looking forward to their date. She had no idea where he was taking her, but she hoped it was good.

At 5:30, Acadia walked in. “Hey, boss lady. I'm here, go get ready for your date.”

“One little problem, I have no idea where we're going,” Sorcha said.

“Well, he's probably going to take you to dinner, with it being 6, so go with dressy casual. What about that gauzy violet skirt with your lavender peasant top?” Acadia suggested.

“That's perfect! Thank you,” Sorcha replied while Zen hooted from behind her.

“Even Zen thinks so,” Acadia said with a laugh.

“Come on, Zen,” Sorcha said, picking him up from his perch and heading for the back where the stairs that led to her apartment were located.

She put Zen in his cage, made sure he had something to eat, then went to get ready. She debated leaving her hair in the braids but decided to wear it loose instead. Once the braids were out, it was wavy from being braided while wet. She touched up her eyeliner, added a mauve lipstick, and a pair of ankle boots, and considered it done.

Sorcha made her way back downstairs, and two minutes to six, Finley walked in.

“Holy moly, he's fine,” Acadia whispered.

“Uh huh,” Sorcha said. Then she smiled at the man who approached.

“Hi, Finley. Don't you look sharp?” He wore black dress slacks and a royal blue button-down.

“Thanks. You look beautiful,” he said and held out a bouquet of tiger lilies. “These are for you.”

“Tiger lilies. My favorite of the lilacae family,” she said, taking the flowers from him. “Let me go put these in water and I'll be ready to go.”

“Sure thing,” he replied.

She went upstairs quickly, got the flowers in water, and headed back downstairs. “Now I'm ready,” she said, grabbing her bag.

“Have fun you two!” Acadia said from behind the counter.

When Finley offered his arm, Sorcha arched a brow but took it and let him escort her out. He led her to his SUV and held the door open for her.
