“You're welcome,” Shar replied with a grin.
“How about I go get us all some food and we have breakfast in bed?” Baz asked.
“That sounds good to me,” Kaia admitted.
Baz
“All right, I'll be right back.” Baz got dressed and headed to the newly-repaired mess hall to get their breakfast.
“Morning, Baz.”
“Morning, Tuck. How's it going?”
“Not bad. The others still in bed?”
“Yeah. I'm treating them to breakfast in bed this morning.”
“How's Rafe?”
“Not good. He's feeling reallyl weak today.” There was no need to explain the reason behind the weakness. The entire compound most likely heard them last night.
“Damn. That's not good.”
“No, it's not. He's getting weaker every day. I think we need to be prepared. I honestly don't think he's going to last more than a few more days.”
Tuck gripped Baz's shoulder. “How are you holding up?”
“As best I can. I have to be strong for Kaia and Shar. They need me. That's why I've taken on being in control of things while Kaia takes care of Rafe.”
“I get it, man. I'm not so good with the emotional shit, but if you want to beat the shit out of something to blow off some tension, I'm your guy.”
“Thanks, man. I'll keep that in mind.” He grabbed the food and headed back to the room to find everyone in bed where he'd left them.
“That took longer than expected,” Kaia said.
“Tuck stopped me.”
“Ah. Had a little chat, did you?”
“Yeah,” he said as he joined them on the bed with the food. “He offered to let me beat on him to work out some tension.”
“That sounds like Tuck,” Kaia replied.
The food was distributed among the four of them and they dug in.
“I should get dressed. I have to get back to the drill,” Shar said once she'd finished eating. “It's really starting to come along.”
“That's great, kitten,” Baz told her.
“Yeah, it is,” Kaia and Rafe agreed.
“I hate that you're not going to be here to see it come to fruition,” Shar suddenly said, wrapping her arms around Rafe.
“Me too, sweetness. But I'll be here in spirit,” he replied. “Go on now. I'm feeling a little drained. I think I'll take a nap,” he added.
“Okay.” She kissed his cheek and slid out of bed to get dressed.
Baz stopped her for a kiss of his own before he let her actually get dressed so she could leave.
