“There is that,” Shar agreed.
“We'll deal with Silas and then Tuck can help you build your drill. That man's a genius with machinery. Between him and Micah, they keep everything running around here.”
“You mean it? We can start building?” Shar squealed.
“Yeah, I mean it baby. Just as soon as Silas is neutralized.”
“Thank you!” Shar threw her arms around Kaia and kissed her.
“You're welcome baby. Now let's cuddle a little longer. We have to leave soon.”
“You promise you'll be careful, right?” Shar asked.
“Always.”
Baz snorted at that. “Don't lie to the woman, Kaia. You don't know the meaning of being careful. You thrive on danger.”
Rafe reached over and slapped Baz's shoulder. “Don't scare the girl, Baz, she doesn't know you well enough to get your sense of humor. He's just fucking with Kaia, Shar, but don't worry, we'll keep her safe.”
“I'm worried about you guys as well,” Shar admitted.
“We'll be fine, baby. All three of us,” Kaia assured her.
“Kaia's right. Silas isn't stupid enough to do anything where he conducts so much of his business,” Baz told her. “He'll wait until he can attack us here because we'll have too big of a head start on him when we leave for him to retaliate right away.”
Kaia sighed. “As much as I don't want to move, we have to get going,” she said after a moment.
Baz groaned and rolled off the bed. “The sooner we get this done, the sooner we can get back,” he said, offering a hand to Kaia to help her up.
Kaia leaned in and gave Shar a quick kiss. “We'll be back. I'd tell you not to wait up, but I think it would be a waste of breath.”
“You're right, it would,” Shar admitted.
“Try not to worry too much,” Rafe said, kissing her as well.
“I'm not going to tell you not to worry, because you obviously will. We'll be back soon, sweetheart,” Baz said and pressed a kiss to her forehead. Then the trio left the room.
“I want everyone ready to ride out the second we exit The Denizen. Silas isn't going to take the news well, to put it lightly, and we're going to have to haul ass out of Duskcairn like our asses are on fire. Got it?”
“Got it, boss,” everyone replied before they climbed into their rovers to head out.
“Are you anticipating things getting ugly?” Tuck asked from the back seat where he sat with Micah and Calix.
“The moment Silas finds out we're not handing Shar over, he's going to go ballistic, so yeah, I anticipate it getting ugly. That's why I want us ready to roll right away.”
“He'll have people in place to try to stop us, discreetly, before we can leave The Denizen,” Baz said. “How do you want to play it, Kaia?”
“If that happens then we use force to get the fuck out of there,” Kaia replied.
“Fuck yeah,” Tuck said, cracking his knuckles. “I'm itching for a good fight.”
“You're always itching for a fight,” Calix said.
“Ain't that the truth,” he admitted.
“You and a certain blonde are made for each other,” Kaia pointed out.
Tuck grunted but didn't say anything. It looked like he wasn't ready to acknowledge his attraction to Aimee yet.
