"It's nothing for you to worry about, Mama." She didn't want to worry her mother.
"Now listen here, young lady. I'm your mother and I'm going to worry whether you tell me or not, especially now that I know something is wrong. So just tell me."
"I have a stalker, Mama. He's a rogue shifter, and he's already killed two people for touching me. I keep waiting for him to attack Yaeger. It's going to happen. I know it is."
"How do you know he's killed two people?"
"The two animal attacks, those were him. He admitted it in the notes he sent with the lilies he sends me every day. A few nights ago, he was outside my bedroom window watching Yaeger and I have sex."
"Have you gone to the police about this?"
"Yes, but they said sending flowers isn't illegal and being a peeping Tom is a misdemeanor. Until he does something serious, there's nothing they can do."
"What are you going to do?"
"The only thing we can do, keep her safe," Yaeger said, having caught the end of the conversation.
"And how are you going to do that?"
"By calling in the big guns. A private security company, one that's filled with paranormals, owes me a favor, I aim to collect tonight."
"How does a private security company owe you a favor?" Frankie asked.
"Did a job for them a few years back," was all he said. "Suffice it to say, I didn't think I'd ever need to call it in, but I'm glad I have it. Now, how about that dessert?" he said, changing the subject.
Frankie let him because, quite frankly, she was tired of talking about her stalker. Maybe this security company could find him and this nightmare would finally be over.
"Miss Melody, it was a pleasure to meet you," Yaeger said as he and Frankie were leaving her mother's house.
"It was a pleasure to meet you too. We should do this again sometime," Melody replied.
"Definitely, " he agreed.
"Mama, I'll come by tomorrow to get my car," Frankie said as she gave her mother a hug.
"Sure thing, sweet girl. You two have fun now."
Frankie let him escort her to his truck. "Why don't we go back to your place? I haven't been to the cabin in awhile."
"Wherever you want to go, darlin'. If that's my cabin, then that's where we'll head."
"I'm in the mood for a nice, relaxing fire," she admitted.
"Then you'll have one."
Once they arrived at the cabin, she let him help her out of the truck. She leaned up and gave him a quick kiss. "Thank you."
"You know I only do it because it gets me one of those," he said with a wink that made her laugh.
"Smartass. Let's get inside. You owe me a fire."
"And I have a phone call to make."
She sat on the sofa while he got a fire roaring in the fireplace. "There you go, beautiful, a fire for my girl."
"Can we close the curtains? You know, just in case he was following us," she asked suddenly.
"Of course, darlin'." He got up and closed the curtains on both living room windows.
