"No thanks. With my luck, it's some old geezer. I'll try my luck with a tourist this summer," she replied.
Soon it was too busy to talk. Everyone was trying to beat the storm. When it hit, it hit hard and fast. By the time she headed home, she had to go at a crawl to keep from wrecking.
Three days. It had been three days since she'd seen Yaeger. Thank the Gods for texting. At least she knew he was safe. He'd made it to the campground and got a cabin before the storm hit. The roads were finally cleared, so she knew he'd be coming into town to see her.
Frankie: Hey, lover boy, you up?
Yaeger: Been up since sunrise. What's up, darlin'?
Frankie: The roads are clear and I'm off today. Why don't you come see me? We can spend the day together.
Yaeger: I've got a better idea. Why don't you come up to the cabin and let me fuck you in front of a roaring fire? Then I'll cook you dinner.
Frankie: Oh fuck, that is a better idea.
Yaeger: Then get your sweet ass here, pronto. Fifth cabin in the row. Can't miss my truck.
Frankie: On my way, lover boy.
She grabbed her coat, hat, gloves, and bag and was out the door.
When she arrived, he was waiting at the door for her. "There's my girl," he said in greeting.
His words sent a thrill through her. When she reached him she leaned up and kissed him. "Hi there."
"Hi yourself, darlin'. Come on in." He stepped back so she could enter and pulled the door closed behind her.
"I see you've already got a fire going."
"Indeed I do. It's cold as fuck outside," he replied.
Frankie laughed. "You'll get used to it. Long underwear are your friend, I'm just saying."
"I'll have to remember that. C'mere," he said and pulled her into his arms. Then he kissed her soundly. "Mm. I've missed those lips."
"I've missed you, too," she admitted.
"I knew I'd grow on you. Can I get you something to drink? I've got water, juice, sweet tea, bourbon and coke?"
"Let's save the bourbon and coke for dinner. I'll have some sweet tea."
"I have to warn you, I'm a Southern boy, so I make mine real sweet."
"Duly noted," she replied. She watched him go to the kitchen to fix them both a glass. She was surprised he didn't jump her bones right away, but she was also touched. It showed her this was about more than just sex to him.
"There was another animal attack," she said when he handed her the glass of tea.
"I know. I saw the news report."
"And you're not worried?" she asked, taking a sip.
"Nope. He went after humans. They're weak. He'll find I'm not such easy prey. Don't worry so much, darlin'."
"I can't help it, Yaeger. If something were to happen to you, it would kill me."
"Nothing's going to happen to me. I promise." He took their glasses and set them aside so he could pull her into his arms. "You've got to trust me, Darlin'. This rogue has met his match with me. Let me get your mind off of him," he said and ran his hands down her sides.
"Mmm, I like the way you think," she murmured.
