I shift to allow her to tug my shirt off over my head, then settle on top of her once more. “We can’t go any further, trouble,” I tell her.

She stares up at me, her pupils blown with desire. “Why not?”

“Because I don’t trust myself to hold back,” I admit, my nose brushing hers. “Besides, we should probably get some rest.”

It’s been an intense day. Longer than a day, actually.

“But I want to kiss you more,” she whispers.

I smile. “I want to kiss you, too.” I lean down to demonstrate, my tongue leisurely dominating hers in a few languid strokes.

Strokes that turn into lingering caresses.

Shadows, she’s addicting…

Her small palms run over my back and up to my shoulders, while my hands itch to explore her soft curves.

But I hold myself back and wrap my fingers around her neck instead. It reminds me that she’s fragile. Vulnerable. Mine to protect.

She hums beneath me, the sound vibrating my palm as I continue to master her with my tongue.

Seconds turn into minutes. And I begin to realize that I could kiss this female for hours. Days.Weeks.

She’s simply perfect.

And so fucking sweet.

“Styx, Sera,” I breathe. “I feel like I could lose everything for you and not regret a second.”

She trembles. “Please don’t stop kissing me.”

Now it’s my turn to shudder. “All right, trouble.” I press my lips to hers and give her what she wants.

All while holding myself back with my palm around her neck.

Time passes. The world shifts. It’s just me and Sera until our kiss begins to slow.

And she gradually starts to relax beneath me as exhaustion takes hold of her.

This was something else Morpheus said would happen—her need to sleep.

“Omegas often rest for long periods before their heat,” he told me earlier. “Because they won’t be sleeping much during their estrus.”

I didn’t need to ask why an Omega wouldn’t be sleeping much; I already knew.

And I sincerely hope to indulge in the experience myself.

With Sera.

I brush a kiss against her cheek, then lower my mouth to her ear. “Sleep well, trouble,” I whisper. “I’ll be here when you wake up.”

I finally remove my palm from her neck and roll to my side, her smaller body moving with mine.

She nuzzles into my chest, almost as though she’s seeking something from me. A purr, maybe. But I’m not an Alpha. I can’t emit that low rumbling sound.

However, I can provide a different kind of vibration. A soothing one from my shadows.

Calling on my power, I pull my smoky ink to my torso and create a unique sensation, just for Sera.
