“You have six children.”
“Five. This one hasn't been born yet.”
“Six!”
“That's over four hundred years. Breeders are rare.”
“Four hundred—” she began to say, trailing off.
She shook her head. “Will the baby be okay? Will it become a vampire?”
“It will have some of the benefits of my genes, but everyone has the capacity to commit murder. Humans kill one another all the time. The child will be a product of its surroundings.”
“So it could become a homicidal maniac?”
“Like any other human can.”
She suddenly clutched her belly with a grimace.
I pushed her back on the seat to touch her belly. The excitement raced through me.
“The baby is coming,” I said.
“What? No. It isn't due yet.”
“Vampire babies have a shorter gestation period.”
“I need to get to a hospital.”
“No hospitals.”
She began to spiral, and I touched her forehead.
“Sleep until the contractions begin. You want to have a home birth. No hospitals.”
I rushed downstairs to get my bag from the car. It was finally time.
Her bedroom was converted into a makeshift birthing room. I had everything with me, and since she was mesmerised, it was a straightforward birth. A few hours later, I held our daughter, her cheeks flushed with colour like Ivy’s. I noticed Ivy began to contract again. It was time for the placenta.
“Wake up, Ivy.”
She sat up, confused, but her face filled with awe as I handed her our daughter.
“I missed her birth,” she said, trying to restrain her anger.
“I made a video for you. I couldn't have you go into the hospital because I want the placenta.”
Her eyes narrowed on my face. “Why do you have blood on your mouth?”
“I cleaned up your delicious bloody pussy,” I said, licking my lips.
Her lips tightened, but she ignored me and began to coo at her ‘little bean.’
My mouth watered at the thought of the warm placenta. I didn't care if Ivy saw me feasting on it. I placed the silver bowl on the bed and waited for its arrival. When I glanced at Ivy, I saw she was breastfeeding the baby.
“What are you naming her? Nicollette?”
“Not a chance,” she whispered before she kissed the baby's forehead.
