Cherriand I stepped onto the beach, wearing our tiniest bikinis, looking fly for the festival. The sound of music filled the air as hundreds of people gathered for today’s event: the annual end of summer blowout. Next to the Fourth of July, this was Golden Coast’s biggest event of the year.
“It’s a shame you're on your period,” Cherri whined. “I was really looking forward to swimming today.”
I shrugged my shoulders. “All things happen for a reason. Besides,” I glanced at her through my sunglasses, “Reef doesn’t seem to mind.” I winked.
“Oh you nasties,” she teased, the two of us giggling as we joined the crowd, dancing to the music as we found a spot to lay our towels out, getting comfortable. “Hey Delilah, look.” She pointed out into the water at a cluster of fishing boats gathered further out, forming a blockade.
“Fucking idiots,” I muttered under my breath.
“At least they’re way out there and not this way.” I nodded, agreeing with Cherri.Exactly.
“Oh yeah, there’s no way that shark could attack over here. Not with all the police present and the fishermen baiting way out there.” I rolled my eyes.
“What’s up with you?” Cherri asked.
“Nothing.” I scanned the many faces, locking eyes with Reef as he smiled. I nodded to him, watching as he did the same and ran towards the water. “Hey, I’m going to see if I can swipe a beer or two from one of the tourists. Do you want anything?” Cherri shook her head. “I’ll be right back.”
I grabbed my butterfly knife, holding it close as I aimed for the bathrooms located at the top of the sand dunes. The bathrooms were tucked far enough back to offer privacy but still gave me the perfect view of the ocean as I leaned against the wall, watching the water.Come on, Reef, where are you?
A minute or two later, I finally spotted his fin. He was swimming directly towards a group of surfers wading in the water.Yes, do it.His fin disappeared as he dipped into the water.Come on, come on. I gripped my knife tightly, impatiently waiting. Before I could blink, Reef launched from the water, his jaw snatching one of the surfers as he slammed back into the surface with his victim.
“Yes!” I squealed, all excited and proud of him. The remaining surfers screamed, panicking as they paddled back towards the beach, frightened. Reef’s body rolled, the underside of his belly obvious to everyone on the beach as he spun around, violently consuming the surfer. A thick layer of blood seeped along the waves, tainting the water.
“Shark!” someone screamed, followed by immediate panic.
Everyone on the beach began to freak out, watching as Reef brutally shook the random surfer’s body. Swimmers rushedfrom the water screaming, creating a mob effect as the whole festival came to a halt. Police officers ran from the festival to the water, blowing their whistles as they helped usher everyone to the beach.
The emcee of the event stepped on stage, grabbing the microphone as she screamed into it. “Everyone get out of the water, now!”Here we go. The beach dwellers began to evacuate, rushing across the sand, hundreds of bodies passing me by as I remained hidden in the shadows between the humble bathroom buildings, waiting for the perfect target.
A young woman ducked between the bathrooms, rushing to me. “Did you see it?” she cried. “The shark? Did you see it?” Time to pretend.
“Shark? What shark? What happened?” I asked, holding her arms. Her eyes immediately noted my knife, puzzled by it.
“Whoops.” I pierced my knife into her stomach, listening as her organs squelched, her warm blood soaking my hand. She stared at me, tears filling her eyes as screamed. “Shhhhhhh.” I covered her mouth, quieting her terror as I slammed her body against the wall. “Now, this might hurt,” I warned before forcing my hand up, violently dragging my knife up her torso, the blade scraping her ribcage as it moved past her chest, slicing along her esophagus. I pulled the blade back just beneath her chin as the woman’s life faded away and her body fell forward and slid down my chest. I gripped her face, kissing her forehead with my iconic shade, shoving her body back as it smacked the wall and plopped onto the ground. Blood covered my hands and the front of my body. “Shit.” I glanced down, trying to wipe off what I could. “Well, I guess it's a good thing I wore red today,” I giggled.
I turned and tried to sneak away from the bathrooms without being seen when a man stopped, looking at me. “Hey, hey, are you okay?” he asked, rushing to me, noticing the blood.
Shit.“Oh my gosh, help,” I cried, immediately throwing up the act. “Help me!”
He gripped my arms, studying the blood on my hand. “What happened?”
“It was the Angel of Death! He’s here. He tried to kill me!”
He pushed me behind him, as if protecting me, searching all around. “Where?” he asked, suddenly noticing the woman's dead body.
“Here.” He turned to face me, my blade slicing his skin perfectly as he stumbled back, blood spewing from his neck. “Y-y-you—”
“M-m-m-eee,” I mocked him as he fell back. “God why do people always act so shocked when they realize who I am?” I bent down as his wide fearful eyes stared at me. “Do I really come off so innocent? Or is it because I’m a woman?” He gasped, blood bubbling in his mouth. “It’s ‘cause I’m a woman, isn’t it? Well, sorry to disappoint.” I slapped his face, his pupils dilating as his soul drifted from his lips. I looked up, waving at the invisible force. “Bye-bye.” I quickly kissed his cheek, skipping away to find Reef.
The beach had mostly emptied, maybe a couple dozen people remaining in the sand, screaming to a handful of swimmers still in the ocean, completely confused by what was happening. The entire Golden Coast police department was rushing along the shoreline, completely unaware of my newest victims.Idiots. I looked around, noticing the outdoor beach showers were empty, offering me enough privacy to clean the blood off my body.Perfect.
I stepped behind the makeshift bamboo walls, tossing my sunglasses and knife aside and turning the shower on. I exhaled, closing my eyes as the cold water ran down my face, drenching my body. The high water pressure over my ears drowned thesounds of screams and panic in the distance, creating a low melody of chaos.
“Barracuda,” Reef purred, slamming my body against the makeshift wall, pinning my arms on either side of me. “There’s blood soaked into your skin.” He sniffed the back of my neck, inhaling deeply. “Mmm, smells good.”
His hands trailed from mine, tracing every inch of my body, feeling me up. “How did it go?” I asked, whispering my question through my breath. “I saw you attack that surfer. You were magnificent.”
He began to kiss my neck. “Oh yeah? Well, I snagged that surfer and some dude high on something. He didn’t know what was happening until it was too late.” He bit my neck hard, pressing his teeth deep into my skin, his cock pushing against my backside as he inhaled again. “And if I’m smelling you correctly, you snagged two kills yourself .”
