Thatgot my attention. My head snapped up and I focused on Theo’s cheeky grin.“What the hell does that mean?”
He swiped a hand through the air dismissively. “Nothing.”
I grabbed the sheet he’d wrapped around his waist and hauled him toward me, making him chuckle.“What does thatmean, Theo?”
“It just means that I might’ve run off andthoughtabout it. But I didn’t actuallydoit.”
I narrowed my eyes on his twinkling ones. “Who is he?”
“Why? Are you going to track him down and?—”
“Castrate him? Yes.”
Theo grinned and shoved me back against the headboard, then pointed to the phone. “Maybe some other time, tough guy.Right now, I think it’s more important you check some of those messages.”
He was right, of course. But the thought of Theo even thinking about marrying anyone but me made me feel suddenly homicidal.
“Does he live near us?”
“Oh my God, Shep.” He fell back onto the bed.
“Did you love him?”
“I was twenty.”
“Not an answer.”
“I was drunk?”
“You were drunk last night.”
He sat up then. “I was one hundred percent sober when I asked you to marry me, got on a plane, then walked down the aisle to make you legally mine for the rest of our lives. So unless you’ve changed your mind?—”
I grabbed him and tumbled him to his back on the mattress, then planted my hands on either side of his head.
“I haven’t. I just wanted to make sure that when I message back all two hundred and four people who asked me if I got married last night, I can write back with full conviction that I did.”
Theo looked at the phone under my hand by his head, then back to me, before he arched his body up and rubbed his cock against mine.
“Think we could message them back later?”
“Not unless you want half of them to jump on a private plane and knock on our door. Remember, Alessio can track us, and I’m pretty sure your family could hunt us down too. Youareroyalty.”
Theo let out a sigh as I reluctantly moved off him. I understood that reluctance. The minute we called back or sent out a text, our private bubble would burst. This perfect momentwe were in would come to an end and the outside world would intrude—and while I couldn’t wait to tell people, I was also enjoying this time away from everyone.
“Who’s first on your voicemail?” he asked as I sat up. “Let me guess?—”
“King,” we said at the exact same time.
I could only imagine what he would have to say about this.
I tapped open the recording and then hit speaker, and King’s deep voice filled the room.
“Shep, hi, I just saw some news on my phone that um, well… I’d just like to know from you if it’s true or not. I’m not trying to be nosy?—”
“Sure he’s not.” Theo grinned, but I held my hand up so we could hear the end of the message.
“—but it’s being reported that you and Theo got married. Like I said, I’m not trying to intrude, and if it’s real, I’m very happy for you both. I just… Just call me back or message. If you need Alessio to put out any kind of copy, we could get Cooper to write it up. If this is a mistake— But again, if it’s not, I’m happy for you both. Talk soon.”
