“I just killed a man for you, Pretty Boy,” Kazimir’s voice lowered silkily, one of his arms wrapping around Nate’s waist to pull him in close until their chests were flush together. “If Pious Prince, the man we’re currently in a partnership with, finds out, he’ll try for revenge. And if he finds out I also helped your little friend get away?” He clicked his tongue. “It’ll be an all-out war between our group and his. People will die horrible deaths.”
“It’s not my fault,” Nate said.
“Narek,” Kaz let out a low whistle, “you don’t believe that for a second.”
“You’re trying to manipulate me.” Why had Nate thought this was a good idea again? He should have sided with Flix. At least he knew his friend could be trusted.
“It’s working,” Kaz sounded so pleased with himself.
Yes, though. Yes, it was.
“Should I call Pavel back in and tell him to go hunt for Port?” Kazimir asked. “He’s a great tracker. Even with the head start, he’ll find him.”
“Then you’ll be in trouble too, for lying,” Nate pointed out, only to have the Devil laugh in his face.
“True,” he agreed. “You won’t be safe either. You might even have to leave the planet. Your sister too, since she shares the same last name.”
Nate grabbed onto Kazimir’s collar. “Are you threatening my sister?”
Kaz grinned at him. “Wouldn’t dream of it.”
Nate wanted to beat the shit out of him for even daring to bring Neve into this, but logic held him back. He’d never win against a Brumal member.
He’d never win against Kaz.
If only he’d come to that conclusion sooner, maybe all of this could have been avoided.
His grip loosened and he let go. “Tell me what to do.”
“What’s that?”
“What do you want me to do, Kazimir?” He clenched his hands into fists at his sides. “Tell me what to do to make you stop.”
“Stop?” He grunted. “Babe, I haven’t even started yet.”
Nate glared at him. “You can’t be serious?”
“Of course I am. You want to thank me for saving your friend? Repay me for risking my life—and taking one—for you? That’s a substantial debt you’ve accumulated, Narek. Much bigger than the mere coin you’d cost me before. Tell you what to do? How about this, Pretty Boy, we’ll start off slow. For now, all you have to do,” he captured Nate’s chin and tipped his head up, “is kiss me.”
Nate’s brow furrowed, certain he’d misheard.
“What?” Kazimir smirked. “Don’t want to? All right. Pav—”
Even though they’d both heard the sound of car engines leaving his driveway and knew both Pavel and Flix were long gone, the threat was still there, and Nate reacted to it the way Kazimir no doubt had hoped.
Before the Brumal member could finish that sentence, Nate lifted onto his toes and planted his mouth against Kaz’s.
The first thing he noted was the lingering taste of coffee on Kazimir’s lips.
The second was the bulge suddenly pressing insistently against his lower abs as Kaz hardened from just a single stroke of Nate’s tongue against his own.
And, finally, the third thing was how Nate’s traitorous body responded in turn.
Despite the threats and the murder he’d just committed, Kazimir was turning Nate on.
Kaz chuckled, clearly aware of the change in Nate as well. “There you go, Pretty Boy. It’s about time. We’re going to have so much fun, you and I.”
Nate opened his mouth to disagree, but anything he was about to say was swallowed up by that wicked mouth and dashed away by Kaz’s twisted tongue.
