She thought about the romance novels she’d downloaded on her tablet and the selkie main characters. “Maybe a little.”

“Then, you don’t need to know where my pelt is,” he replied.

She laughed again and said, “I’m sure I’ll find it eventually.”

Since she was distracted, Torin took the opportunity to start convincing her that living with him permanently was a good idea. And to forget about the damn pelt.

Since she liked making love to him slowly, he was going to demonstrate exactly how slow he could be.

Until she begged him to go fast.

Epilogue

She needed to hire more people, Dominique Proxa thought as she and Veronica went over a list of tasks to take care of tomorrow.

Between the administrative duties, follow-up calls with clients, intake interviews with new clients, and her other business interests, Dominique was always busy. She’d been giving Veronica more and more duties but now they were both working ten- or twelve-hours days during the week and sometimes having to come into the office on the weekend.

This couldn’t continue.

She needed at least one or two more employees. And fast.

Veronica was scribbling away in her planner as they chatted. Though they had a shared calendar for the computer, Veronica insisted that she remembered things better if she wrote them down.

The door to the office opened and Dominique couldn’t stop herself from glancing at the clock. Four-forty-five. Fifteen minutes until they locked the front doors.

She and Veronica could get a lot done between five and six when the office was officially closed. Then, they could head home.

Unfortunately, the door opening meant they had a current or potential client coming in.

She glanced up and saw that it was Torin Gallagher. His shoulder-length black hair was still tousled, he had stubble on his jaw, and his blue eyes seemed even more brilliant against the backdrop of the late afternoon sun coming in through the window.

“Hello, Mr. Gallagher,” Dominique said as she straightened.

She’d been standing with a hip leaning against Veronica’s desk. She walked around to greet the selkie.

“How are you?” she asked.

“I’m great, actually,” he responded. He also smiled, something she’d never seen before.

Despite the fact that she would never date a client, Dominique felt a little tug in her belly at the sight. Gods, he was a handsome man.

“That’s wonderful. Are you here to resume your membership?” Veronica asked, coming to stand beside Dominique.

“Actually, no, I’m not,” he admitted. If anything, his smile grew wider. “I’m here to thank both of you.”

“Thank us?” Dominique asked.

“Yes. You see, a couple of months ago, you matched me with a will o’ the wisp named Nova Eckhart.”

“I remember,” Veronica said.

“I thought the first meeting didn’t go well,” Dominique murmured to her assistant.

“It didn’t but—”

“My restaurant manager hired Nova while I was out of town. I wanted to fire her immediately, but my manager threatened to quit if I didn’t give Nova a chance.” He shrugged as if to say ‘what can you do?’

“I take it things worked out,” Veronica piped in.
