Torin’s eyes lifted from her hand to her face, and he followed her lead.
He inhaled slowly, deeply, and after he released the breath, he said, “You smell like cinnamon and vanilla.”
Nova leaned closer. Just a bit.
The small motion was all that he needed. Torin reached out, wrapping one arm around her shoulders and the other around her waist, and pulled her into his body.
In a blink, his lips were on hers.
ChapterEight
Torin had no idea what he was doing.
Well, he did know but it wasn’t smart.
For the last ten days, he’d been struggling with the urge to do exactly what he was doing now—kissing Nova.
Every time she smiled, the sound of her laugh, even the twinkle in her eyes when she bickered with him, it was like a siren’s call.
Considering he was a selkie and his love of the sea, a siren’s call was irresistible.
He buried one of his hands in her hair, cupping the back of her head with his palm. She burrowed closer to him, her fingers slipping beneath the edge of his jacket and tee to touch the small of his back.
Her hands were cool but it felt like heaven against his skin. He’d been burning up for days now.
Torin flicked her bottom lip with his tongue and Nova gave him what he wanted, opening her mouth to his. She tasted of cinnamon and sugar, just like the churro he’d given her after she ate dinner. Beneath that was her, warm and ripe.
He wanted more of her. No, he needed all of her.
A soft moan vibrated from her mouth to his, shredding the last coherent thought in his head. As he reached down to put both hands on her ass and lift her on the closest surface, the door to the cooler flew open.
“Whoa! Damn. Um.”
Well, that was as effective as being doused with ice water.
Their mouths tore apart and they both turned to look at the source of the sound, Addie. She stared at them with her mouth hanging open, no longer speaking.
Torin moved his hands to Nova’s waist, holding her still when she tried to push away, and whispered, “Give me a second or Addie will get a more explicit show.”
Nova made a choked sound, one that suspiciously resembled laughter, and nodded.
Torin lifted his head and spoke to his manager. “Call the repair people and leave a message that one of my employees was locked in the cooler in nothing but a thin shirt and they have twenty-four hours to do something about this or I’m calling their corporate office and stirring shit up until I get what I need.”
Addie nodded and started to shut the door to the cooler.
“Wait!” Nova yelled. “Be sure to turn the flap over so the door won’t latch.”
Addie nodded again, did as requested, and then vanished.
Torin turned back to Nova, unsure of what he should say, but she beat him to it.
“Shit,” she whispered.
Torin blinked. “Shit?”
Nova looked up at him. “That was an amazing kiss.”
He felt the corners of his mouth tip up and didn’t even bother trying to stop it. Nova seemed to like it when he smiled at her, so he did it as often as possible.
