She drained her wine. “Oh, you have to. It’s expected.” She took a moment to consider his words. “Although maybe it would be a good idea for you to say that to her later. Then, when we get her back, it’ll be even better.”
Rune sighed and shook his head. “I don’t want to start a war with your sisters.”
“Too late. We’re Valkyries. We live for battle, even if there’s no bloodshed involved.”
“Good to know,” he replied, setting his glass aside. “What should we do now?” he asked.
Astra leaned over to place her glass on the coffee table and moved to straddle his lap. “I’ve never had make-up sex. Maybe we should try that.”
ChapterTwenty-Two
Astra braced her hands on Rune’s shoulders and stared down at him.
She couldn’t believe how wonderful he was. He not only accepted her apology but offered her one of his own. He wasn’t angry with her, and he hadn’t given up on her.
He regretted how their argument had turned out.
He was amazing.
“What are you thinking?” he asked, his hands coming to her hips.
“That you’re amazing,” she answered, cocking her head to the side. “Why do you ask?”
“Because your eyes changed.”
“My eyes?”
His hands rubbed up and down her hips. “Sometimes they’re mostly gold. Others, they’re all green. Right now, they’re a perfect mix of the two. I can always tell when your mood is changing based on your eyes.”
She would never be able to lie to him, she realized. Not that she ever planned to, unless it was because she wanted to surprise him with something special.
She also couldn’t believe he paid that much attention to the way her eyes looked.
“They’re changing again,” he murmured.
She had to kiss him then. When their lips touched, any thought she had about make-up sex or anything else, flew right out of her head.
All she could do was experience that moment with him. His lips were warm and soft, gentle against hers. The muscles of his shoulders tensed beneath her hands, and she let her fingers drift across his shoulders to his neck, touching the bare skin at the base of throat. The quick, hard thrum of his pulse vibrated beneath her fingers.
She almost couldn’t believe he was real. And that he was hers.
Rune’s hands slid behind her to cup her buttocks and he stood up, holding her as though she weighed nothing. With his enhanced strength, she probably didn’t weigh anything to him.
He released her mouth. “As much as I enjoy being spontaneous, tonight I want a bed.”
Astra wrapped her arms around his neck, nipping his bottom lip with her teeth. She loved the way his eyes flared silver when she used her teeth on him. It seemed vampires enjoyed being bitten as much as they liked biting others.
“I’m okay with that,” she murmured.
Then, she squealed because hemoved, the living room and hall of her townhouse blurring as he carried her into the bedroom. She didn’t have time to be dizzy because he was in her bedroom in the blink of an eye.
She lowered her legs and he let her slide down his body but kept his hands on her ass. Astra smirked up at him. “Copping a feel?”
“Oh, I plan to do a lot more than that.”
He kissed her again, stealing her breath. Her thoughts. Her will.
Her muscles loosened and became pliant. She leaned into him. Rune’s tongue slid into her mouth, tasting of wine and heat.
