“Okay, so she can probably handle me.”
“Oh, yeah. You’ll be easy.”
He gasped in mock outrage. “You’re calling me easy?”
She smirked at him. “If the shoe fits…”
“I guess I can wear it,” he finished.
She laughed and sipped more water. Then, she yawned.
“I think I need to turn in,” she murmured, rubbing her eyes.
“Why don’t you go get ready for bed and I’ll put all this away.”
Astra hopped off the counter and kissed him. “Sounds good.”
He watched her walk away, admiring the back view. His shirt barely covered her ass and shifted in an extremely intriguing way as she moved.
In a few moments, he had the food put away and nearly all the dishes in the dishwasher. He left the skillets in the sink, soaking. He’d wash them in the morning after Astra left.
Which reminded him of how early she would need to get up. He went over to the single-cup coffee maker and made sure the reservoir was filled with water and that there was a pod ready to go inside. He also grabbed a cup out of the cabinet and put it beneath the spout. If she was anything like him, she would need that first cup as soon as she woke up.
He checked the doors to make sure they were locked and turned off all the lights except for the lamp in the living room.
When he entered the bedroom, Astra was already in bed, asleep. She’d left the lamp on and had somehow figured out which side was his because she’d chosen the other.
He got ready for bed and climbed in next to her. It was a little early for bed for him, since he liked to work until one or two in the morning, but he wanted to enjoy her presence, even if she was asleep.
Though the lamp was off, his night vision was excellent, and he could see her face in the darkness. He smiled when he remembered her question about how blunt she should be.
And that she’d come over to make him dinner and have sex with him.
He wanted to laugh, but he also didn’t want to wake her up.
He was dangerously close to being crazy about this woman. She was sharp, funny, and she knew exactly what she wanted and went after it. He always admired a woman with goals.
She rolled toward him and threw her leg over his. Her arm snaked around his waist and her cheek pressed into the outside of his shoulder. He moved and put his arm under her head. She shifted closer and sighed.
Oh, yeah. He was falling fast, and he didn’t give a damn.
ChapterEleven
Even though she’d only gotten a handful of hours of sleep the night before, Astra was revved and ready to take on the day when she walked into her office the next morning.
Not only had Rune made her coffee and a bagel with cream cheese, but he’d also brought it to her in bed as soon as the alarm on her phone went off.
He’d also fixed a big travel cup of coffee for her while she got ready and handed it to her when she was about to walk out the door.
And, after he kissed her good-bye, he asked when he could make her dinner.
Her answer had been tonight.
So far, he was proving himself to be the right guy because he was definitely making all the right moves.
“Someone looks chipper this morning.”
Astra glanced up from computer to see her sister, Sylvie, standing in the doorway to her office. She’d been working here for a couple of weeks now and she’d slid into the operations almost seamlessly. Despite her claims not to be needed or as good at the job as her sisters were, Sylvie hadn’t made as many missteps in the first few weeks as Astra had when she started the job.
