After a few seconds, he called out, “Are you done getting ready?”

I rolled my eyes. Yep, totally doing it on purpose.

Just for that, I was going to take my time getting ready. He could be an hour and half late to work for all I cared.

Thirty minutes after that, I wandered downstairs, fully dressed and made up. The scent of toasted bread wafted from the kitchen. I carried my mug through the door and found Daniel putting a toasted bagel on a plate.

“I thought you said you could be ready in twenty minutes,” he said, not looking at me.

“Well, someone insisted on parading around nearly naked and distracting me so take what you can get.”

He laughed at my words and carried the plate over to the table. “Parading?”

I walked over to the coffee machine and stuck my cup beneath it. “You knew what you were doing.”

He came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Sure, you don’t.”

Daniel laughed quietly and kissed the side of my neck. “Maybe I like it when you watch me.”

I couldn’t suppress the shiver that ran down my spine. “Okay, then don’t complain when it takes me longer to get ready then.”

“Fine.” He released me. “The bagel on the table in yours. We don’t have time to run by the bakery this morning. Besides, it’ll be nearly lunch time by the time we get to the office anyway.”

“Ha, ha, ha,” I muttered, taking my now-full cup of coffee from the coffee maker. “You can blame yourself for that, too, since you’re the one who decided we should shower together tosave water.” I made air quotes around the last two words.

Daniel smirked at me as the toaster popped up another bagel. “Are you complaining about my attempts to be green?”

Considering we used a lot more water during a shower sex-a-thon, I probably should, but I couldn’t because my legs were still weak from the two orgasms he’d given me this morning. I’d never admit it, but it far exceeded coffee when it came to starting my day with a smile.

I watched as Daniel moved to the fridge to grab cream cheese, noticing that he seemed a lot more relaxed than he had my entire time here. Not that I’d been here long, but he seemed tightly wound the entire time.

Until now.

Maybe morning sex was as good for vampires as it was for humans. Hm. Something to consider.

“Are you going to come eat or stand there and stare at me while you drink your coffee?” he asked.

Sex had loosened him up in other ways. He was teasing me a lot now rather than giving me the cold shoulder or a heated stare.

I preferred teasing to the hot and cold behavior he’d exhibited before. And, as he’d promised, there’d been no sign of aloof Daniel Ayres since the first time we’d had sex.

I carried my cup over to the table and sat down on his right, pulling my plate over to me.

“Thanks for making me breakfast,” I said as I spread strawberry cream cheese on my bagel.

“You’re welcome. I needed something to do while I was waiting on you to finish getting ready.”

“I thought we were done with this part of the morning,” I retorted before I took a bite of the bagel.

Crisp on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. Perfect.

“We are,” he agreed, taking a huge bite of his bagel.

His phone buzzed on the table, and I glanced at it. Poppy. Rather than answering it, Daniel picked it up and replied via text.

“What are you saying?” I asked.
