"But who does Dumont consider his enemy?" I asked. "Us or this unknown entity?"
"That's a good question," Macgrath said. He looked at me with those intense blue eyes so similar to Marcus'.
"Considering he came to us," Ava stated. "I think he would prefer to have us as allies. Since that didn't work, I'm concerned he'll try to use us as his distraction." She sighed. "Should I contact him and rescind my demand that he leave the city?" she asked Macgrath.
To my surprise, he shook his head. "No. Let's see what he does first. We'll watch him and monitor his communications before we do anything."
"Want me to hack his phone?" I asked.
Macgrath grinned. "That's an excellent offer, but I think we'll just clone it."
"Do you have to get close to him to do that?" I asked.
"It shouldn't be too difficult."
Ava rolled her eyes. "Such a show-off."
Macgrath shook his head. "No, I just like to have fun." The mischievous gleam in his eye disappeared. "We're going to watch him and follow him and find out what he knows. Then, we will approach him. He came here and fucked up. He needs to scramble for a little while before we come in and clean up his mess."
"I can help," I said. I wanted to help. I might not have their magic or physical strength, but there were things I could do in this situation that would help.
"Oh, you're going to," Ava said. "I want you to compile every piece of information you can on Andre Dumont. Everything. Banking information, property he owns, vehicle registration, emails, texts, anything you can find or think of. See if he has any aliases or shell companies. Go crazy. Make a file on him that any government agency would want on one of their adversaries. Or allies."
I put my soda down and rubbed my hands together. "I can do that."
Ava got to her feet and Macgrath followed suit. "We're going back to the shop. All my tools and herbs are either there or at home. I believe I'm going to put a tracking spell on our friend, Andre. It'll make it easier for Macgrath and Callum to find him and clone his phone and place an actual tracker on it."
"If you can track him with magic, why do you need the technology?" I asked.
"In case one fails or he blocks one of them," she answered.
That made sense.
"I'll get to work," I said.
"I can help."
I glanced at him. "I don't know. Your fingers are fast, but your brain is slow. Remember the game?"
He laughed without humor then made a face at me. "It's bad sportsmanship to gloat," he said.
"It's not healthy to remain in denial."
He made another face at me.
"Children, don't worry, you can all help," Ava said.
I grinned at her. "But I was having so much fun."
"Tease him later when he's still fumbling around to find things that you've already dug up."
"Hey!" Callum said, looking at her. "No ganging up on me."
"Try to take this seriously, Callum." Macgrath put an arm around Ava's waist. "I know it's difficult."
"But she—" He stopped and stuttered. "She started it."
"And you're a lot older," Ava answered, folding her hands at her waist. "You should know better."
