"We have a bunch of streaming services. We could watch something. Anything you want," he said.
"Anything?" I asked.
"Anything," he confirmed.
And that was how we ended up watching One Punch Man, the dubbed version because reading the subtitles gave me a headache.
"Okay, explain this to me again," Marcus said. "He's a superhero...for fun?"
After the first episode, I'd caved and asked Marcus if he had any popcorn. I wasn't very hungry but any kind of TV binge required snacks.
I finished munching on my current bite of popcorn and said, "Yes. Saitama trained every day for three years and now he's the strongest man in the world."
"What sort of training did he do?"
"Watch and see," I said.
"Just tell me," he insisted.
I glanced over at him and took another handful of popcorn. "You're one of those, aren't you?"
He frowned at me. "One of those what?"
"Those people who can't just watch and wait to see if their questions are answered. You probably snoop for possible Christmas presents, too."
"I would never snoop. And I can wait."
"Okay," I said, putting more popcorn in my mouth.
He turned back toward the TV and watched in silence.
This lasted for approximately five minutes, which was four minutes longer than I thought it would.
"Just tell me," he finally mumbled.
I grinned and looked toward him. "He did a hundred sit-ups, a hundred push-ups, a hundred squats, and a 10K run every single day for three years."
"That's all?" Marcus asked.
My eyebrows rose. "Are you saying you could do that?"
I couldn't help myself. I glanced down at his chest and arms and then back up to his face. I mean, he looked like he worked out. A lot. But still, that wasn't an easy workout for most people.
Marcus actually smiled. I hadn't been counting, per se, but I was pretty sure this was only the third time he'd smiled at me.
"I could."
I shot him a narrow-eyed glance. "You realize that I can't just take your word for it, right?"
"Tomorrow morning, I'll prove it."
"What's wrong with today?" I challenged. I immediately cringed internally. Shit. What was wrong with me?
His eyes sparkled with humor. "I worked out today already. My days of two physical training sessions are over now that I'm a civilian."
"You were in the military?"
His gaze flattened and I could almost see him shutting down. "Of a sort. A long, long time ago."
