"I do not."
I pointed to the reflective surface of the bakery case. "You're doing it right now.
Marcus looked down, saw his expression, and stopped frowning. "Dammit."
Savannah and I both laughed and I gave him a kiss on the cheek. "That's okay. You have a sexy frown."
His brows lowered further and I smiled sweetly at him.
"Maybe some dessert will sweeten your mood," I said.
"We have your favorite today, Marcus," Savannah said. "Apple galette."
"Sounds good."
Savannah turned to me. "We also have lemon mousse cake."
"Oh, that sounds good, too. Can we get both of those and two cappuccinos?"
Savannah smiled. "Of course."
Marcus insisted on paying for the food, but I pulled a few bucks out of my pocket and dropped them in the tip jar.
"You didn't have to do that," Savannah said as she got our desserts.
"Yes, I did," I said.
She smiled and shook her head, sensing that it would be useless to argue with me.
I turned to Marcus to say something, but he was looking out the front window. The door to the shop opened and Ava came in first, followed by Macgrath and two other men. One was dark, with black hair and bright blue eyes. The sun blinded me momentarily as the other man came inside. I blinked until my eyes focused and my heart stopped for a moment.
Dear God. It was Caleb. Rhiannon's pet vampire. He was here.
My legs lost their strength and I leaned against the counter.
I had to run. I had to get away. But my body refused to work.
"Merry? What's wrong?" Marcus asked.
I couldn't think, much less speak. Panic clouded my mind.
Heavy bands wrapped around my ribs. I couldn't breathe.
"Rhys! Caleb!" Savannah called, coming around the counter to give them both a hug.
Why was she hugging him? Didn't she know that he was dangerous?
I tried to cry out, to tell her to stop, but my mouth wouldn't work.
Marcus leaned down and his face filled my vision. "Merry. Talk to me."
I couldn't say anything. I was staring in horror as Caleb hugged Savannah back, smiling down at her. He looked normal. Nothing like the monster I knew he was. Ava, Macgrath, and Rhys seemed to know him well. None of them were concerned.
"It's him," I finally said.
Marcus sighed. "I know. It's okay. He's not a threat to you anymore."
Those words captured my attention and I looked from Caleb to him. "What did you say?"
