“Fine, let me be clear. I’m not going to sleep with her tomorrow. It’s not-” Logan paused. “It’s not like that.”

After a long silence, Bray whistled. “So you reallylikeher then? I didn’t even realize you’d kept in touch.”

“We haven’t. Yesterday was the first time I’ve seen her since I graduated high school.”

“I don’t understand.”

“I always liked her, even in high school. I’m pretty sure she had a crush on me back then too.”

“I still don’t get it, man. I’ve had ten hours of sleep in four days. You’re gonna have to spell it out.”

Logan rubbed a hand over his face. “I had the hots for her my senior year, okay?”

“Okaaaay,” Brayden drawled. “So why didn’t you date her then?”

“Because I knew that if I started dating her, I’d never leave. She was so damn sweet and beautiful. She never would have asked me to stay, but that didn’t mean I wouldn’t do it just to be with her. And the thing I wanted the most back then was to get the hell out of here.”

“Oh.”

Logan sighed. “Yeah. Oh.”

“You need to take her to The Bistro.”

“The Bistro?”

“Yeah. It’s a nice little restaurant. The food is really good and it’s not too loud during the week. All the women I know love it.”

“What women?” Logan quipped. “You said you haven’t dated in a while.”

“Listen, asshole. You called me for advice. Don’t give me shit, or I’m hanging up and going back to sleep.”

“Okay, okay. Calm down. Is there a dress code?”

Brayden scoffed. “Dude, this isn’t The French Room at the Adolphus. Just don’t show up dressed like a slob.”

“Bray, you’re a doctor, not a surfer. Don’t call me dude.”

“Jesus. Are we done?” Brayden asked.

“Yeah, Bray. Thanks for your help.”

“You’re welcome. Now, I’m going back to bed,” he yawned.

“Wait, are you coming to Mom and Dad’s for dinner tonight?”

“Yeah. I’ll see you there.” Bray yawned again. “Damn, I’m tired.”

“Okay. One thing before we hang up.”

His brother groaned. “What?”

“Don’t tell Mom I have a date tomorrow.”

When Brayden started laughing, Logan shook his head and hung up. He was so screwed.

The next afternoon,Gabby rushed home from The Wild Vine at five-thirty. She only had an hour and half to get showered and dolled up. Normally that would be more than enough time for her to get ready for work or a girls’ night out, but this was dinner. And not just any dinner, it was a dinner with her high school crush. It wouldn’t be enough to just look nice. She needed to look phenomenal.
