“Should we take this inside?”

She hesitated. As much as she enjoyed his company, the intensity of her physical reaction to him unsettled her. She said yes to dinner to appease some of her curiosity about Logan Westfall and with the thought that she would say good-bye to her high school fantasies.

Instead she now had completely grown-up fantasies that involved a lot more than a few kisses.

“I, uh,” she trailed off.

Logan smiled. “It’s too soon?”

“Yeah, just a little,” she answered. “This took me by surprise.”

“Why?”

“Well, you may not have noticed, but I had a massive crush on you in high school.” Shrugging, Gabby explained, “Usually, those sorts of feelings fade after a decade.”

Logan’s smile widened. “I liked you in high school too.”

Laughing, she smacked his shoulder. “Liar. You didn’t even know I existed.”

His expression abruptly became serious. “I did, Gabby. I liked you a lot.”

“Why didn’t you ask me out then?” she asked.

“Because the one thing I wanted to do back then was get the hell out of this town. I liked you too much and I didn’t think I’d be able to leave you behind.”

“Really?”

“Yeah.”

“Wow, I never knew. You did a good job of ignoring me.” Gabby chuckled. “I don’t know if I’m flattered or pissed.”

“How about flattered?” Logan joked, bending down to pick up her purse.

“Okay, I’ll go with that.” She took the bag when he held it out, reaching in the pocket for her keys. “Thanks.”

“So, when can I see you again?”

Before she unlocked the door, Gabby studied him for a moment. “I don’t know.”

Eyebrows lifting, Logan queried, “Why?”

“Because your confession makes me think I should torture you a little as revenge for making me feel invisible,” she answered with a saucy wink.

Logan laughed incredulously. “You’re mad at me for something I did fourteen years ago?”

“Not really, but I do think I should give you a hard time.” Gabby leaned forward, kissing his cheek. “Don’t worry, I won’t make you suffer for too long. Thanks again for dinner. It was great.”

With that, she quickly unlocked the door and left him standing on the front porch.

After she shut and locked the door behind her, Gabby couldn’t resist peeking out the window as Logan walked back to his truck and climbed inside. She giggled when she saw that he was grinning.

Her phone vibrated in her purse and Gabby fished it out to find a text message from him.

I’ll see you tomorrow.

Shaking her head, she responded.Maybe. Maybe not.

His answer was equally quick. We’ll see.
