Finally, she managed to shove me off and tried to get on top, but I kicked her chest with so much force she flew back into a wall. A brick cracked and fell beside her. I stood and walked over, snatching a handful of hair to drag her away from the wall.
“Get the fuck up and hit me!”I lifted her limp body partway.“You wanted a fuckin’fight? Well here I am. Hit someone who’s gonna hit you back.”I waited for her to stand but she only shook her head.
I gripped her hair tighter and kicked her in the face, then kicked her again and let her drop. I stepped back as she started coughing up blood.
“Are you gonna help me?”Melissa shrieked at her friend.
“Yeah random girl, are you gonna help her? Now would be a good time to jump in. I guarantee you, I can take you both.”
“No one intervenes unless someone might die,” a guy said, shrugging.“Vamp code of honor.”
I turned back to Melissa. “Guess you’re on your own.”I nudged her chest with a heel and knocked her over, then climbed on top.
I pressed her head to the side, holding her neck down with one hand while I pulled out my switchblade with the other. I was an inch from slitting her throat when she mustered the energy to catch my hand.
“Are you trying to fucking kill me?”
“Yeah, I am. I told you I will if you ever pull that shit on him again. You didn’t believe me,”I paused as she shook her head.“And you thought you were big and brave and could handle me.”I tried to push the blade closer but she fought harder. Finally, it grazed her skin.“I told you not to fucking test me.”
It almost punctured but one of her friends snatched my hand. I let himdrag meback and pull me to my feet. I didn’t bother to struggle, just watched with a smile as Melissa coughed up more blood.
“What the fuck is wrong with you? You’re fucking insane!”She sat up, holding her ribs as she wiped blood from her face.
“I warned you, bitch! I fuckin’told you I’m not scared. And to answer your question, yeah I saw what you did, which is why you’re fucked up and bleeding on the ground right now. Hisbitchdid his dirty work for him. If that’s what you wanna call me, that’s what I’m gonna be.I’ll be the biggest fucking bitch you’ve ever met—”
“You can’t be doing this all the time,”the guy holding me said.
“And you can suck my fuckin’dick.”I yanked my arm from his grip at the same timeDennis arrived by my side, having already grabbed my fallen blade and chain. He ushered me away while Melissa glared from her spot on the ground.
“Next time—”
“The same fucking thing is gonna happen, you delusional piece of shit.” I twisted in Dennis’ arms as I was dragged past. “You think it’s gonna be better for you next time? Next time I’m gonna actually kill you. Next time I’ll slit your fucking throat and watch the life drain from your eyes.Nexttime I’m gonna tear your motherfuckin’ corpse to pieces and burn that shit‘til you’re a pile of ash and nobody even knows what thefuckyou were—”
“I’m not scared of you,” Melissastarted, then flinched when I broke free from Dennis and came back.
“Oh, yeah?” I crouched down to her pathetic level. “If you ever, evertouch him again you don’t evenknowwhat the fuck I’ll do to you. I’ll bury you with every goddamn thing you’ve ever loved—”I cut off as Dennis and Sean both pulled me up and started dragging me away with some effort; I was trying to keep going while Melissa was backing up scared.Dennisturned me around and took hold of my cheeks.
“Calm down,”he said, looking into my eyes.“She’s already half dead. Look at her.”
I glanced back to see Melissa hunched over and coughing, her friends finally by her side.
“You’re gonna need some blood,”the girl was saying.“You lost a lot.”
“I know! I fucking know!”Melissa screamed. I laughed and she turned her glare on me.“I hate you,”she seethed.
I flipped her off beforeDennistook my hand and led me away. He and Sean stayed on either side of me, probably to keep me from going back to kill her, while Ari and Mateo trailed behind. I smoothed my skirt and put my earrings back on, then took my hair down and ruffled it out.
“I’m gonna be completely honest,”Nate started as he and Michael moved out of our way,“Ididn’t know you had that in you.”
I didn’t respond. I was stilllivid.I hadn’t gone as far as I wanted, and my fingers were itching to go back and finish things. We were halfway through the parking lot when I calmed down enough to look atDennis.“When did you guys get here?”
“Same time as you,” he said.
“I knew you were tough Emy, but shit. I guess we underestimated you, huh? As did Melissa.”Mateogrinnedas Sean laughed.
“I warned her. Not my fault she didn’t wanna believe me.” I glanced at Ari, who was silently watching me. She’d never liked the times I truly lost my temper.“Sorry.”
“It’s okay.” She sighed lightly. “I should’ve known you’d lose your shit instead of cheering him up. Were you really gonna kill her?”
