I sat there on the couch in the living room, waiting for Wren to come downstairs. Her shoes clacked against the marble as she made her way down to me. I got up from the sofa and met her at the bottom of the staircase. My woman was beautiful as hell.
She wore this pink satin strapless gown. Her baby bump poked underneath it. Her hair was in a half up half down style with curls. The bang she wore all the time finally grew out andshe actually looked different without it. Tonight, she decided to wear a pair of contacts. Wren knows I hated whenever she did that shit. I loved looking at her in her glasses. When she reached me, I handed her the pink and white rose bouquet and leaned down toward her stomach. Gripping her hips, I firmly pressed my lips against her belly.
“I can’t wait ’til my son gets here.”
Her eyes connected with mine, and she asked, “What makes you think it’s a boy?”
“’Cause I said it was. The fuck?”
“You’re delusional.” Snickering, she placed the bouquet onto the entry way table.
“You ready?” Straightening my posture, I extended her my hand and hers fell into it.
“Oh, I almost forgot.” Opening the entry way table, she pulled out a small box. “I got this for you.”
I opened the box and it was a Breguet watch. I know she had to have spent a bag on this. “Where’d you get the money?”
“I’ve been saving. You buy me expensive stuff all the time. It was only right that I got you something back in return.”
“You did a good job.” Pecking her on the lips, I set the watch on the entry way table. “Now, let’s go see your gift.”
“See?” Her brows furrowed, and I pulled her out the door, making sure to lock it behind us.
When we got to the car, I opened the passenger door for her and waited ’til she was securely inside before shutting the door. The gift I got Wren, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to top this one. I got her something that I knew for certain that she was gon’ love. Rounding the car to my side, I got in alongside her and pulled off.
I drove for thirty minutes ’til I came to a parking lot on Vaughn close to Taylor Road. Stopping in front of the shopping center, I got out and rounded to her side and then opened thedoor. Wren extended me her hand, and I helped her from the car.
“What are we doing here?” she asked, looking up at the building that didn’t have a sign. A couple of the spaces have a for rent sign in the window. I led her over to one of the doors that have a huge red bow on it. “What’s this?”
Reaching into my pocket, I pulled out a set of keys that had a stack of books charm on it and handed it over to her. “I bought you yo’ own space. You can turn it into a library or bookstore. Whatever you wanna do with it.”
“Are you serious right now?” Her mouth damn near touched the ground.
“Yeah. Unlock it and check it out.” Her arms craned my neck, and she buried her face in my shirt. I wasn’t worried about the makeup getting on my shit. For one, she used that setting spray shit on her face when she did it and two, if it did, I ain’t really care.
“I can’t believe you did this.” When she peeled back, tears streamed her cheeks. I thumbed them away.
“You too pretty to be crying, but you deserve it.” Wren been holding me down ever since she stepped into my life. “I know shit ain’t easy being with a nigga like me and you put up with me with ease.” Hooking her chin, I pecked her on the corner of her lips. “I ’preciate you.”
“You just made a fifteen-thousand-dollar watch look like nothing.” She snickered.
“Gone check it out. It’s the gold key.”
She jiggled the keys ’til she found the gold key and stepped to the door. I stood back while she unlocked it and pushed the door in. I tried to pick the perfect spot for her. Somewhere that was convenient for people to get to and safe. Safety was my main concern for her. Though I wasn’t too worried about anyone fucking with her, especially since now she’s Mrs. Saint-Mercier.There are several people in the city looking out for her and she don’t even know it.
I entered the building behind her and watched as she maneuvered it. The space was huge. When I was searching for somewhere for her, I was trying my best to make sure it was the perfect size for whatever she wanted to do with it.
“All the renovations, furniture, books, merchandise… whatever is on me.”
Wren stopped in the center of the floor and turned to me with moisture filled eyes. Everything makes this girl cry. She’s a huge water ball while being pregnant.
“I really can’t believe that you did this. I can’t thank you enough.” She strutted in my direction and grasped my hand. Swinging her arm, she gazed up at me. “You’re like a dream come true.”
This the first time anyone has ever called me a dream. A nightmare, maybe, but never a damn dream. Gripping her by the neck, I brought her lips to mine. Whether she knows it or not, she’s the dream, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to keep her in my reality.
After we locked up, I took her to the penthouse downtown. I parked in the parking garage and used the elevator to take us up to the top floor. Since I didn’t know much about decorating and shit because I didn’t really have a reason to, I had Solei come in and do the shit for me. Once she was done, she FaceTimed me and showed me everything for my approval even though I trusted her instincts.
Soon as the doors opened, we were met with pink rose petals covering the floor. Pink balloons drifted from the ceiling with pictures of Wren and I hanging from them. The petals led toward the circular table with a white tablecloth on it sitting in the center of the floor next to the floor to ceiling windows that overlooked the Montgomery night skyline. Next to the table wasa bottle of the finest champagne chilling on ice. Candles twinkled all over the room from the windows to the table.
