“Just like that,” he whispered as she floated on, still shaking with tears rolling down her face. She couldn’t have stopped them if she tried, the tears continuing even as mindless pleasure still cascaded through her.

She pressed her face into his shoulder. “I’m sorry,” she hiccupped. “I don’t know why I’m crying.”

Her stomach convulsed again, and she groaned as more heat swept through her, pressing her hips closer to him. Understanding,Aidan slid his hand beneath her low back, fingers spread across her ass as he pulled her onto him as close as physically possible. Arms tight around him, she exhaled in relief at his closeness. He held her there until she drew back, easing herself off him, and settling onto the desk propped up on her elbows so she could see him.

The look on his face brought a blush to her face, and she tried to look away. He was looking at her with such gentle but fierce devotion it made her heart stutter.

“Stop.” She flicked her fingers against his skin, leaving them there so she could finally run her hand over his beautiful chest and stomach like she’d wanted to all night.

He smiled down at her less than subtle attempt at feeling him up before grabbing her fingers and kissing them. “That was new for you then?”

She paused. “Crying?”

He nodded.

If her cheeks had warmed before, now they burned. He was never going to have sex with her again. She was so embarrassing.

He kissed her palm now, noting her distress. “I’m honored.”

She froze, her brow quirking. “You’re honored that I acted like a teenage virgin?”

A rough laugh escaped him, his abs flexing over the top of her. “How do you feel right now?”

She stretched, her whole body languid. “Spent, but new. Like you cleared everything out and I can breathe again. Like I want to do it some more,” she purred, pulling him down to her so she could kiss his mouth. “Mmm.” She couldn’t help the little noise, he tasted so good she nipped his lip.

Another laugh rumbled through him. “I’ve created a monster.”

She nodded. “You’ll have to deal with the consequences.”

Shaking his head, he traced his fingers over her skin. “I don’t need or want to know what kind of sex you’ve had before. That’s your business, but I want you to know that it’s normal for certainkinds of sex to elicit that type of response, and I’mhonoredbecause it means you gave yourself over to me. You trusted me with all of you, and I know how difficult that is for you.”

Her throat suddenly had a lump, but she nodded, and he sat up, scooping her onto his lap. “Hold on.” In a flash, they were on his bed, and Aidan was drawing the covers back, gesturing for her to crawl in.

Once they were under the covers, her hand slid across the sheets, trailing over the length of him. Wrapping her fingers around him, she smoothed her hand up, then back down in one smooth stroke, and Aidan closed his eyes, groaning as he put his own hand over hers, stopping her.

Confusion cramped her stomach. “But you didn’t…? Do you not want…?”

His bright blue eyes flashed open, practically glowing in the dark as he moved over the top of her faster than her eyes could track. Hot and ready, he pressed against her. “Does thatfeellike I don’t want you?”

He ground down against her already sensitive front and laughed darkly as he rolled off her. “Go to bed, Thorn.” Grabbing her, he pulled her into his side, her face on his chest.

Sitting up, she dug her elbow into his ribs and glared, knowing damn well he could probably see her with his stupid immortal vision. “I don’t understand.”

He sighed. “I can’t.”

“You can’t have sex? Hate to break it to you, but I think that ship has sailed.”

Aidan bent one elbow, putting his head on his hand, sounding patient now. “I can’t risk fully finishing inside you while you’re mortal.”

She paused, anxiety rising inside her. “Do regular contraceptive herbs not work?”

Face to face in the dark, the high points of his defined cheekbones colored. The mighty death god was finallyalmostembarrassed. He tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. “They work.”

“Then what’s the problem?”

“The problem is that I’m not willing to risk harming you.”

“Aidan, you’re going to have to spell it out.”
