“Umm, what?”
“You said you didn’t have anything to say, but then said something. Which is it?”
“Oh. Umm… I don’t think I do that?”
“What’s that?”
I growled, “Apologize.”
“Good girl. Words matter, baby girl. Take it from Daddy and me. Not saying shit that needs to be said can ruin lives. So, when you’re talking, try to remember to label things and not call them an ‘it’ or ‘that.’ Daddy and I are working on communicating better, too.”
“We are?”
Hayden glared at him and said, “Yes. We are. Starting now. I fucking refuse to be miserable or take any more crazy time meds than I already do.”
“Wait, what?”
“New rule. You will take your meds and quit talking badly about yourself. You’re not fucking crazy, you have a goddamn brain injury from falling out of a fucking helicopter.”
“Ummm, guys, what are you talking about?”
Hayden’s eyes slid closed, and he shook his head. “Nothing.”
“Ohh ho! Look who’s already breaking his own rule.”
“I swear to God, vato.”
Hayden stood up, shoving his chair out of the way as he stalked away, much the same way Declan had in the kitchen the day I met them. This thing between us wouldn’t last five seconds if they couldn’t talk things out.
“Papi! Stop! Now!” I yelled, sitting up to prop the phone on a pillow in front of me, my nakedness no longer a worry.
He did. Then he turned. A brow cocked half way up his forehead and his chin tilted. He could spank my bottom when he saw me, if he wanted, but I would have my say.
“You two need to learn to talk to each other. You just said you were working on it, but do better. Work harder. It’s no wonder you spent so long apart.”
“Little girl, you best…”
“No. There is no ‘you best’ in this situation. I’ve never had a relationship before, but even I know that when you’re arguing, you can’t walk away. You either fight or fuck, and when done, you figure it out.”
Four eyes rounded in surprise, their mouths dropping open in twin looks of shock. I replayed what I said and gasped. Both hands smacked over my mouth. I’d never said that word. Not in my whole life.
A clock ticked in the background, breaking the silence that stretched and stretched as I stared at them through the camera.
“That was the most adorable fuck I’ve ever heard,” Hayden said, coming back to sit down.
“I’m so…”
Declan cocked his head. “Think before you speak.”
“Ugh!” I flounced back against the pillows.
“Damn, vato, look at our pretty pussy.”
Scrambling to grab the phone, I flipped myself up on my hands and knees.
“Fuck, and there’s those pretty titties.”
“Oh, my God! Stop!”
