“This is Aurora Harrison.”
“You’ve been ignoring my messages.”
Hunter’s voice slides through the receiver like warm honey, making my skin prickle with unwanted awareness.
“I’m working.” I glance at my office door, lowering my voice. “Don’t call me here again.”
“You left me no choice, Aurora.”
“We have nothing to discuss.” My fingers tighten around the phone. “What happened was a mistake. It’s over.”
His low chuckle makes my stomach flip. “Nothing between us is over.”
“Goodbye, Hunter.”
I move to slam down the receiver, my hand trembling with anger and something else I refuse to name.
“Hang up, and I’ll call Olivia next.”
I freeze, the phone hovering above its cradle.
“What did you say?” My voice is barely audible.
“I’m calling from my office. One button, and I’m connected to my fiancée.” The way he says ‘fiancée’ drips with mockery. “I wonder how she’d feel about our little video session yesterday? Finding out her sister touched herself while watching me?”
Cold dread washes through me. “You wouldn’t.”
“Talk to me, or find out.” His voice hardens. “Your choice, Aurora.”
I sink back into my chair, trapped. “What do you want?” I ask, my voice barely more than a whisper.
“You.” The single word hangs between us, charged and dangerous. “I want you, Aurora. Tonight.”
My throat tightens. “That’s not happening.”
“I need to see you in the flesh. Somewhere private.” His voice drops lower, that same commanding tone that made me do things I never thought I would. “No screens between us this time.”
I press my fingertips against my temple, trying to quell the panic rising in my chest. “No. Absolutely not.”
“This isn’t a request.”
“I don’t care what you call it,” I snap, anger momentarily overtaking fear. “I’m not meeting you.”
“Your sister doesn’t have to know about us.”
“There is no us, Hunter.” I glance at my office door, paranoid someone might overhear. “What happened was a mistake. One I won’t repeat.”
His laugh is soft, menacing. “We both know that’s a lie. I saw your face, Aurora. I heard the sounds you made.”
Heat floods my cheeks. “Stop.”
“Meet me tonight. My place. Ten o’clock.”
“No.” I dig my nails into my palm. “I won’t betray my sister again.”
“Such loyalty.” His tone shifts, harder now. “Fine. If you won’t come to me, I’ll come to you.”
My heart stutters. “What?”
