"I almost asked for champagne before I thought better of it."
I snorted at the irony. "Don't feel as though you can't have any. It was never my favorite drink, anyway."
Handing me a glass half-filled with rosy liquid, he ran his fingertips over my jaw and kissed me gently. "I'll be quick."
Feeling bold, I rubbed his cock, finding him already hard. "Don't take care of that without me."
His laughter followed him into the bathroom, and I grinned in response.
One carefree night was all I wanted. We deserved as much. It seemed as though every time we went out of the house, disaster struck, so maybe we'd have to have all our dates in the bedroom.
Hearing the shower turn off, I stripped the robe from my shoulders and tossed it over the chair, leaving my glass on the small table. Eyeing the bed, I decided there was no reason to wait for Burke before getting on it. By the time he entered the room, I was on my side, one leg bent and my arm under my head, trying to look sexy.
He halted across the room. "God, you have no idea how much I missed you."
"Hopefully, as much as I missed you."
Burke joined me, discarding his towel and aligning himself with me. At first, he only held me tight. "This right here is what's eluded me. I can't sleep alone anymore."
Warmth covered me, creeping up from my toes, along my thighs, through my torso, and up to the top of my head. "I need you so much," I whispered.
His lips covered mine, and he moved to hover over me. The weight of his body on top of me was enough to steal my breath; it said welcome home. Our kiss went on, reacquainting, reclaiming, devouring. I sucked his bottom lip into my mouth, nipping on it and listening to his moan as it curled its way into my soul. The sound of his sigh against my lips as he cupped my nape caused my heart to swell, bringing with it the promise that everything would work out.
Burke moved down my body, capturing a nipple with his lips and tugging. Threading my hands through his hair, I moaned and arched against him.
"Please."
Moving lower, his tongue was all over me; in me. "I want to taste how much you missed me."
It had been so long since we’d had this chance. He used his fingers to tease me, opening me for him and thrusting his tongue inside me. Kisses landed on my inner thighs, and I gripped the sheets in a desperate attempt to ground myself in reality. My breath came out in a whoosh, desire coiling in my belly until it exploded. I called his name, but he kept going. Trembling fire overtook me, causing my muscles to quake and my limbs to weaken. When it felt as if I couldn't possibly bear it for one more second, he stroked two fingers inside me, and I shattered once more.
"Fucking gorgeous, baby," he whispered, moving up to kiss my breasts.
"That was . . . unbelievable."
"Let's see if we can make it better than unbelievable." Tenderly, he held my face between his palms and kissed my forehead as he slipped inside my body. "I've got you now, Kinsley."
He moved, and I gasped, clutching his shoulders. "Don't leave," I chanted. "Don't ever leave me."
Burke moved inside me, kissing me over and over. "I'm right here."
"I never want to be separated again."
"Never." He took one of my hands and held it against his racing heart. "We belong together."
Tears dripped from the corners of my eyes. "I love you."
A beatific smile graced his face. "And I love you."
I saw it then, the tear that slipped free and ran down his cheek. His movements were smooth as he brought us to the pinnacle, and I cupped his face to stare into his eyes. There had never been a time when I'd felt more connected to him. The moment he pressed his hips tightly to me and stuttered my name was when I knew I'd made the right choice. Each time, I'd chosen him, though often it had seemed an impossible decision.
"Kinsley, mo shíorghrá," he said as he rolled to my side.
"Hm?" I snuggled against him, utterly content within our world.
"Happy anniversary."
"You remembered."
