"Feels fucking amazing."

My skin tingled. Fierce passion showed on his face, and my heart swelled. The words were on the tip of my tongue, but I bit down to keep them inside.

Burke's movements were smooth, unhurried, and I luxuriated in the comfort of his protective arms. As my back arched, he ran his tongue up my throat.

"Close," I gasped. "Ungh."

"Come on my cock, baby. Let me feel you explode in my arms." Seconds after he spoke, his hand was between us, rolling his fingers over my clit.

His filthy mouth drove me wild, and his fingers brought me to the brink. A discordant cry left my lips, and he increased the speed of both his fingers and his hips.

"Be a good girl and come for me, baby."

"I want to." Restless, I ran my hands over his chest and shoulders.

"I know. Let go."

He was right; as soon as I let go of the expectation, it crashed over me. "God, Burke!"

"Do you want me to fill you up, gorgeous?"

"Oh, please!" Clutching his arms, I buried my face in his neck and screamed from the prolonged orgasm.

"Fuck, fuck, fuck." He came hard, shuddering in my arms.

In the aftermath of our lovemaking, I discovered myself drifting off. With vicious desperation, I clung to Burke when he tried to roll over. "Don't let me go."

I felt his lips on my forehead. "I won't, I promise."

"Okay."

Just before I fell asleep, I heard him whisper, "Tá mé agat anois."

When I woke hours later, the first thing I noticed was Burke's arm draped over my chest and his leg thrown over mine. I was content to have him remain close, but the hour grew late. Smiling, I ran my fingers through his hair and cupped his face.

"Burke."

One eye cracked open, and he smiled at me. In a husky voice, he said, "Told you I'd stay."

"Yes, you did." Ridiculously happy that he'd kept his promise, I snuggled into him once more. "What are the words you occasionally say to Finn in Irish?"

It was much easier to ask if I didn’t have to meet his gaze.

He shifted underneath me. "I tell him I love him. Is breá liom tú."

I tried to repeat the words but knew I'd butchered it. He'd never said it to me, but it was familiar from the times he said it to our son. "It's lovely."

"Earlier, I said that I've got you."

It wasn't the same, but it was a nice sentiment. "Thank you."

Burke touched his lips to the top of my head, and his chest rose and fell rapidly under my cheek as he sucked in a ragged breath and let it out. "You're welcome."

Though I wished we could remain in bed together, we had to get up and face the rest of the house. Finn was in Maddie's capable hands, but I wanted to hold him tight and reaffirm the promise I’d made to myself about keeping him safe.

We found Caden and Maddie in the living room, sitting on the floor playing with the baby. The adults looked up when Burke and I came into the room.

Maddie frowned heavily. "Are you both okay? This one wouldn't tell me anything, but I know something isn't right."
