“We’ve been waiting for you. We thought you said seven.”

Grant nodded. “Yeah, sorry, I guess I was running late.”

Josh gave him a weird look. “That chick that keeps showing up at the shop was here, but she left.”

“Good thing.” Grant grabbed a bunch of peanuts from the bowl on the table. “She seems to be a handful.”

Josh laughed at that, and Grant relaxed. His beer arrived, and the waitress asked if they were ordering food. They each got something and sat back again.

“You interested in being my guinea pig?” Brent asked.

“Always.”

Brent nodded. “I got some new equipment this week. I’ve run out of room on myself for practice.” He grinned at the other two.

“Count me in. When do you want me to come by?” Grant asked.

“Just whenever.”

“Cool.” Grant thought about it. “Sunday?”

“Yeah, just don’t forget I’m sleeping until at least ten. Don’t wake my ass up.”

“I’ll do my best to be there bright and early, then.”

“Fucker.” Brent laughed.

“You up for a game of pool while we wait on the food?” Josh asked.

Grant sighed in relief. His friends really just thought he’d run a little late. They got up and waited their turn for a table. He could relax and have fun for the rest of the night, something he hadn’t done in a long time. He was due for some fun. Wasn’t he?
