No way in hell I’m letting her see what I look like right now.
I’ll send you a photo.
I go to the bedroom, grab the suit from where I hung it in the closet, and snap a pic.
Okay. Shirt? Tie?
I grab the one tie and dress shirt that I brought for the occasion and send her a photo of them as well.
Got ‘em. I appreciate your commitment to breaking down the stereotype that gay men are fashion plates. But sweetie, no, I’m gonna come style you.
For a split second, I panic.
Now??
No, I have the dinner!
Oh, right.
It’s going to have to be at 6:30 tomorrow morning. It’s the only time I have.
I could argue, but there’s almost never a point to arguing with Zoe.
Fine.
CHAPTER 51
GEORGE
I’ve been workingall day onSteele Trap. I’ve tweaked everything there was left to tweak. Polished everything that needed a polish. Read the whole thing through from beginning to end.
It’s done. I’m done. Two weeks ahead of schedule.
I open an email to Anabel. Attach the file. Type out a quick note. Click send.
I’m still just sitting there staring at the screen when, less than a minute later, a reply appears:
From: Anabel Morales
To: George Knight
Date: December 20, 10:59 PM
Re: Signed, Steeled, & Delivered
Cute, but I think we’ll stick with the original title.
Thanks for getting this to me (and ahead of schedule!) Can’t wait to see your other pages when you’re ready.
- A
I close the laptop. That’s it then. I’ve done what I came here to do, and then some. I guess I could start working on the other book, but I need a clear head for that, I think. Tonight is certainly not the night, and I’d probably do better to give it a couple of days.
Which leaves me, unfortunately, with nothing to do but face the realities I’ve been avoiding. I’ll be going home soon. Owen and I will swap back on the third, just like we planned. And it will be like everything that happened while I was here… didn’t. I guess.
Maybe at some point I’ll tell Zoe the whole story and cry on her shoulder. She’ll take me out and get me drunk, and we can people-watch for cute guys at some dark bar together.
But I can’t do that right now. I can’t even call her because she’s too busy (ridiculously busy based on the texts she’s sent the last couple of days) with the other reality I have to deal with—Luca’s super fabulous wedding.
