Epilogue

Bari

“If you don’t let me out of the bed, we’re going to be late to Brigid’s dinner party,” I threatened, pushing weakly against Ahearn’s hard chest. The two orgasms he’d finessed from my body already having left me exhausted. “We can’t go anywhere without showering after this and it’s a long flight.”

“Truth,” Ahearn agreed amiably, nipping at my neck as he nudged deeper inside me, his cock already hardening again. “I’m sure that your friend will understand and accept our apologies.”

I groaned, canting my hips to cradle my Alpha as he moved gently inside me. It had been three days since Ahearn had declared his intent to drive memories of Petroh from my mind and he’d been most thorough in his endeavors, leaving me deliciously sore and well-used. In that time, I’d been allowed from the bed only to eat and shower when we began to stick together. Even then, Ahearn had been unwilling to leave me be. Instead, he’d joined me in the shower and washed me gently, holding me close as the warm water rinsed the soap from our bodies.

Meals had been ordered in, the delivered groceries languishing forgotten in the kitchen as my Alpha wrapped us together in a fluffy blanket in front of the crackling fire and fed me, refusing to allow me to do anything to care for myself in his determination to make amends for the rough patch we’d gone through. It warmed my heart, reminding me of the possessive and attentive behavior Ahearn had exhibited in the first weeks of my pregnancies, always one of my favorite times.

“She will,” I agreed, threading my fingers into my husband’s hair and pulling him down for a kiss. “I love you.”

Ahearn froze, his hard length still buried inside me as he pulled his head back and stared into my eyes. “Still?”

It shouldn’t have been amusing, but I laughed. “Of course, still,” I assured him. “You might not remember, but we said forever and it hasn’t been that long yet,” I teased, wriggling to try and convince him to move again.

Instead, he leaned down and brushed our lips together in a kiss so innocent and chaste that it nearly stole my breath.

“I don’t know what I could have possibly done to deserve you, a chroi, but I will do my best to never make you doubt my affection again.” Another kiss followed, less innocent as he slid his tongue into my mouth to dance with my own. “I love you.”

When he followed that sweet declaration with another breath-stealing thrust of his hips, I moaned, surrendering to my Alpha’s will. After all, he was right. Brigid would definitely understand.

Two weeks later

“Alpha,” I sighed as Ahearn came up behind me and scraped his teeth along my neck. “Not now. Dinner will burn.”

“Are you feeling any better, a chroi?” he murmured in my ear, his whisky smooth voice causing an immediate shift in the blood flow to my vital organs. “I’ve missed being inside you.”

Between the slight stomach bug I’d been fighting off and Ahearn’s near obsessive desire to bed me, I was exhausted, but very happy. Laughing, I turned to swat at his arm. “It’s been twelve hours, Alpha,” I pointed out, sliding my hand down to cup the erection tenting his trousers.

“It has,” he agreed with a wicked smile. “Maybe I can tide myself over with a little taste.”

Before I could ask what he meant, my slacks were down around my ankle -elastic waistbands were a fabulous invention- and my Alpha had spun me around to face the counter, spreading my arse cheeks with one hand as his wicked, wicked tongue drove deep inside me.

“Oh!” I barely noticed the spatula clattering to the floor as Ahearn gripped my dick and began to work it with short, squeezing strokes. Proceeding to bend me over the counter, his large cock split me open, gliding into my body like he belonged there. It only took a few short strokes before he was pulsing inside me, his seed coating my insides as the base of his cock began to flare.

“Ahearn!” I shouted his name as my own release coated the cabinet in front of me, dripping down to puddle on the floor.

He reached over me, pushing the skillet to the side of the hot burner and turning the stove off before easing us to the floor with me in his lap, his throbbing member still locked inside me. “We may have to order a pizza.”

I huffed out a laugh, making us both moan when my hole tightened around him. “For heaven’s sake, Ahearn. What has gotten into you?”

His chest vibrated behind me as he chuckled. “Truth, I didn’t intend to knot you but it came on so suddenly. You’re irresistible,” he murmured. “The way you taste, the way you feel, your scent..” he trailed off as he buried his face in my neck, drawing in a deep breath and releasing it with a sigh before stiffening slightly and tightening his arms around me. “Bari, a chroi, you’re pregnant.”

I laughed and shook my head. “We might need to get your head checked again,” I teased, “because we both knowthatisn’t possible. Even when we’d thought about having a child, we knew we’d need donor eggs.”

Ahearn didn’t laugh with me, instead he pressed tiny kisses all over the back of my neck before speaking again. “Think on this, a chroi,” he said softly, “you’ve been ill for no reason, the other day the smell of baking fish made you leave the room.” He nuzzled into my neck again and his pheromones flooded the room. “And I can’t get enough of you. If you were a wolf, I’d suspect you were in heat.”

“Dragons don’t have heat cycles, per se,” I said with a laugh.

“No, we don’t,” Ahearn agreed smugly.

Oh.

Ohhhhhh.
