Spencer frowned slightly. “You know that you simply need to have Bari sign the appropriate forms and then file them with the Council of Elders, right?”

“When I arrived at the hospital to bring Bari home, I found that he’d gone without warning and left no forwarding address,” I forced the words out. “I am requesting that the High Court issue a formal Writ of Reinstatement.”

From the furrow of Spencer’s brow, I suspected he didn’t understand the meaning, which wasn’t surprising as he was both young and not a dragon.

“I beg your pardon?” The deathly coldness in the Prince’s voice made it clear that hedidunderstand what I was requesting.

“I wish the court to order my legal mate restored to my physical custody,” I clarified.

“Against his wishes,” the Dragon Prince hissed, eyes flashing and flames flickering from his nostrils, “and through an antiquated law.”

The wrongness of the situation flooded through me but I refused to back down as I met his furious gaze without flinching. “Through any means necessary.”
