Lamar tightened his grip on Aeren’s knee, a growl building in his throat.
“If he wanted a man, all he had to do was tell me,” she said sadly. “I could have been anyone he wanted. Instead, he spent thousands of dollars from our retirement account for that?”
She shook her head. “When he left, I approached him and offered extra services if he met me at a motel.”
“Where did you get the drugs?”
Mrs. Parker snorted. “I didn’t have to. He told me he’d bring them with him. Apparently, screwing whores wasn’t his only dirty little secret. It was his idea to inject him as he orgasmed.” She rolled her eyes in disgust. “He said it made it better.”
“So, his death was an accident?”
“No. I wanted him dead.” Mrs. Parker sat up straight in her chair and glared into her attorney’s eyes. “So, instead of just taking his whore’s appearance, I went a step further and added the incubi into the mix. He never saw it coming.
Apparently not expecting that revelation, her attorney took a startled step back, but she wasn’t done.
“Neither did Steve.”
“Steve?” Her attorney was beginning to look a little green. “You’re referring to Steve Thomas?”
“I am,” Mrs. Parker confirmed haughtily. “His bowling partner, my great aunt fanny!” Her lips drew back, exposing ragged fangs.
Her attorney shook his head, appearing at a loss. “How did you trick him into meeting with you? And why did you choose to take the madam’s form to kill him?”
“It wasn’t difficult,” the djinn was nearly bragging. “I saw the security chap leaving and borrowed his appearance. That gave me all the access I needed to look up Steve’s records.” She sneered. “Can you believe that they keep track of who he had sex with and how? Disgusting.” She gave a dramatic shudder. “Anyhoo, there was a note that he had requested Amandadisciplinehim, but she hadn’t accepted the request, always foisting him off on others.” She shrugged. “When I called and told him she’d changed her mind, he jumped at the chance.” Her smile took on a dangerous glint. “I thought his ending was rather poetic, considering his drinking problem.”
“What did you do with the security guard, Marco Chapman?”
Her brows raised. “Why, nothing. I presented as his Grandmother and offered him an all expenses paid holiday. He accepted it. He’s on a European cruise.”
A faint murmur ran through the courtroom. It seemed no one had seen that coming.
“And the police officers and paramedics that you injured?”
Mrs. Parker frowned. “I am truly sorry for each of them,” she said sadly. “I didn’t want to hurt them. I thought I could pop into the police department and find out whether or not I needed to skedaddle and everything fell apart.” She gave the judge an earnest look. “I’m glad none of them sustained permanent injuries.”
The defense attorney was shaking his head as he approached the bench. “The defense rests, your honor.”
“That was hands-down the weirdest case I’ve ever worked,” Lamar commented as he led Aeren out to the SUV after the hearing. “It’s going to be interesting to see what sentence she receives.
“When will we know?” Aeren asked, cuddling against his side.
“Not sure,” Lamar said with a shake of his head. “Usually, they would have announced the sentencing date before the judge adjourned.” He dropped a kiss on Aeren’s hair. “Are you working tomorrow?”
Once Aeren’s unique gift for sketching had been discovered, he’d quickly found himself in high demand as a freelance courtroom sketch artist. Which, he had admitted to Mandy, was convenient since he’d had to quit his job atAfter Nine.
Lamar took a pretty dim view of other people touching his fiancé. And, Aeren had to admit, so did he.
“No, there aren’t any paranormal cases on the docket.”
Lamar opened the SUV door, waiting patiently as Aeren settled himself in the seat, and then leaning in to kiss him. “Good.” He winked and brushed his fingertips over the gold circle on the fourth finger of Aeren’s left hand. “You remember how we were talking about starting a family after we get married?”
Aeren nodded, his brow furrowed in confusion.
“I think we should spend all day tomorrow in bed working on it.”
Aeren snickered. “I’m not an Omega, sir,” he reminded him cheekily. “You can’t knock me up.”
Lamar laughed, low and dirty and leaned in for a kiss. “Don’t you worry about a thing, baby,” he growled in Aeren’s ear. “I’m more than willing to breed you as many times as it takes.”
A shiver ran through Aeren and settled in his groin, sparking the low-burning arousal that he’d finally accepted was his standard response to being in close proximity to his man. He tilted his face up and stroked Lamar’s cheek, smiling as the stubble reminded him of the first time. “Yes, sir,” he said, knowing the sweetly submissive response would throw Lamar into high gear. “Whatever satisfies you, sir.”
Aeren hid his grin as Lamar groaned and ground his hand against the base of his cock.
“I’ve said it before, boy,” he growled, lifting Aeren’s hand and kissing the gold band. “You are trouble.” He pressed another tender kiss to Aeren’s lips. “The best kind of trouble and I’m so glad you’re mine.”
