“Is it accurate?” Lamar asked curiously. “I mean, it’s not like I can check a mirror.”

“It is,” Genov agreed. “Very, very accurate, in fact.” He looked to Aeren with blatant curiosity. “How did you know I’m a vampire?”

“I didn’t,” Aeren said simply. “I just drew what I see.”

Lamar felt his eyes widen as he stared at Aeren in amazement. “That’s amazing. Can you see everyone’s true self?”

Aeren shrugged, not meeting his eyes. “I guess.”

Lamar pressed on. “So, when you saw Detective Trask, did you actually see a dragon?”

Instead of answering, Aeren flipped a couple of pages in his pad and shoved it toward Lamar.

“Wow.” Lamar studied the image of a powerful dragon bursting out of his partner’s body. “That is amazing.”

“Thank you.”

“Where is Marco, now?” Lamar asked.

“He didn’t show up for his shift last night,” she said quietly. “We don’t know where he is.”

Lamar turned back to Mandy, seeing the concern etched in her brow. “Does anyone else know about his talent?”

She shrugged. “I don’t know. I’ve known Ren for years and I just found out about it.”

“Did Marco see you sketching him?” Genov asked, his eyes still on the picture of himself.

“Maybe,” Aeren admitted. “I mean, I draw out in the main building a lot when I’m not working. He might have.”

“When did you draw this?” Lamar asked, tapping on the image of the shifter.

“Yesterday morning, when I was in the lobby.”

Lamar’s jaw tightened as he turned to Genov. “Can you get the Chief?” When Genov left the room, Lamar sighed. “I think we should consider putting Aeren in protective custody until we locate Marco.”
