Another epic fucking understatement,Lamar thought to himself. While only Genov had been put on desk duty pending the investigation, they’d both been sent home for the remainder of the day. Lamar gritted his teeth at the thought of wasting valuable time.

“That’s pretty much what happens when you whip your dick out on department time,” he snapped. “What the fuck were you even thinking?”

Genov looked surprised. “But that’s not what she complained about. According to the paperwork, she never even mentioned it. She complained about me trying to hug her at the scene.”

“Please tell me you used protection,” Lamar groused.

Genov colored. “Uh, well, no. We didn’t screw; she blew me in the stairwell.”

“What?” When Lamar spun to look at him, Genov barely stopped before he crashed into his partner’s chest.

“She shoved me against the wall, yanked my pants down, and gave me head,” Genov explained. “Then she spit it into the corner and walked away. She never even said anything to me.”

“That didn’t seem strange to you?”

“Well, yeah,” Genov admitted. “But she sucks cock like nothing you’ve ever seen, so it was totally worth it.”

Lamar closed his eyes and thought back to the morning that they’d met with Mandy in the Chief’s office. He’d seen no outward signs that she’d even been aware of his partner’s presence, much less interested in him. Opening them, he met Genov’s confused gaze. “Show me.”

“What?”

“Show me where she blew you.”

“Um, okay.” Genov led the way to the stairwell and then down three flights to the basement. He gestured to a corner out of sight of the security camera. “There.”

Unclipping the mini-mag light from his belt, Lamar swept the area with the bright beam. Dripping down the wall was a crusty dried patch of biological material. “Is that where she spit?”

“I think so,” Genov said slowly. “Why? What does this have to do with anything?”

“I’m not sure yet.” Lamar pulled his ever-present emergency sample kit from his pocket and used the tiny plastic spatula to scrape the residue into the evidence bag. “Let’s keep this between us until I have a chance to talk to Vic.”

Genov nodded.

“In the meantime, go home and keep your damned nose clean. I’ll call you when I know something.”
