Chapter Thirteen

Colt

Sky had tensed in my arms as I admitted the depth of the trespass I had committed against him.

I loosened the grip of my arms around him as I waited for Sky to speak, to rail against me.

To lash out against the monster I am, the monster I turned him into.

To respond the same way that any human would who had just discovered that he had been violated in the basest of ways.

Unexpectedly, he relaxed, his body melting more fully against me.

"Well, I guess that explains the steak craving, huh?"

"What?" I shook my head, certain I must have heard him wrong. "What are you talking about?"

"My steak craving," Sky repeated. "Werewolves are primarily carnivores, aren't they?"

"Um, yeah. I guess," I made myself respond even though I was lost. "I mean, we're human, too, so we do eat fruits and vegetables, but we eat a lot of meat."

Sky just nodded, his soft hair brushing the underside of my chin. "I used to read the medical books that Dr. Murphy kept in the lab when I had free time. I remember one of them saying that a carnivore who suffered from blood loss would crave bloody meat to help their body replace the lost iron. That's probably why I'm craving a bloody steak, don't you think?"

"I guess," I agreed, still dumbfounded at his easy acceptance of being told he'd been changed on the most basic level. "I mean, I'm not a doctor, but it sounds logical."

When he finished speaking and cuddled closer, pulling the blanket up to his chin, Sky sighed. "Will you wake me up when the food gets here?"

"Yeah, of course." I brushed my lips lightly over his hair. "Are you sure that you’re okay with this?"

"Mm-hmm," Sky murmured. "I'm fine, Alpha."

Within minutes, Sky was snoring.

"You're sure you don't mind me staying with you?" Sky asked for the third time since we'd left the hospital. "I don't want to impose. You've already done so much for me."

"No imposition," I assured him again. "There aren't that many options for werewolf packs in this area. Besides, until your transformation completes, it’s really safer for us to be together." I forced myself to keep from adding theand you're minepart. I knew that turning Sky and claiming him were two totally different things, but for some reason my inner beast was having trouble telling the difference.

The only explanation that I could think of for my inner confusion was the hand job Sky had woken me with before I blew him. I hadn't been touched intimately by anyone since before Chloe had taken off, so there was no doubt I was hungry for action.

I held back a groan as my cock began to fill at the thought of his soft hands gripping my length, stroking me as he squeezed out every drop, but there was nothing I could do about the sudden change in my scent.

Which, now that he was no longer human, I was pretty sure he was aware of.

"Thank you," Sky said softly, making my lust-addled brain struggle to understand why he was thanking me. "I really appreciate everything you've done to take care of me. Especially since I'm not really an Omega anymore."

Thatcaught my attention. "Of course, you are," I growled, reaching over to wrap my arm around him and pull him close as we walked down the path to my house.

"It's okay, Colt," Sky said with a shake of his head. "The defining characteristic of an Omega is the ability to bear young, right?" He didn't wait for me to agree. "There’s definitely no way to salvage that after what was done to me, so I know you don't have the same drive to protect me. That's why it surprises me that you still are."

My were snarled in response, reminding me again that his attachment to this Omega was..unusual.

"A true Alpha protects all Omegas, Sky," I reminded him, rubbing my hand over his back. "Your value isn't measured by how many pups you can drop. Especially not here." I considered telling him the story of how Colt and Trevor had mated, but decided to wait until he'd had a little more time to acclimate. After all, the story may have started with our pack Alpha falling for a barren Omega, but it definitely ended with Trevor getting knocked up and that wasn't likely to make Sky feel any better.

"Here we are," I announced as I steered Sky up the gravel path to the small porch. "Home, sweet home."

Sky stared up at the building, resisting my efforts to urge him forward, and his face broke into a beaming smile. "It looks like something out of a fairy tale!"

I couldn't help but laugh. "Okay, Prince Sky. Come on in and check out the castle."
