Sky shook his head. "I started fainting. They were afraid a customer would report it to the authorities, so they moved up my exit date."

"Your exit?" I parroted.

Sky shrugged. "They can't afford to have anyone there very long in case they get caught, so everyone being held there has one. For the Alphas, it's when their hormones stop working." I must have looked confused, because he explained. "The only Alpha DNA they use in the process is Cal's, but they need additional Alphas to trigger heat in the Omegas to maximize the egg harvesting. When the Omegas aren't ever bred by that Alpha, they stop responding to him and he's tossed out."

"Is wrapping you in a blanket and throwing you off the embankment the standard exit?" Colt growled.

"Pretty much." Sky nodded again. "First they bind us in the barbed wire so we can't struggle free without drawing blood." He gave me an apologetic look. "Cal doesn't want to kill us outright in case they get caught, so he counts on the blood attracting predators to kill us. That way they can call it an accident. Our feet are sliced open so we can't climb out of the pit."

"Holy shit," Colt gasped. "That's fucked up."

I said nothing. He wasn't wrong.

When I realized Sky was done talking, I drew in a centering breath. "I know this is very invasive," I said before I asked, "but can you tell me why they operated on you? Were they harvesting your eggs?"

Sky's eyes flared for the briefest second. "Not exactly," he said quietly before taking a deep breath. "They removed all of my reproductive organs to try an implant into another prisoner. A Beta."

I felt my pen fall from my fingers as I processed his words. That was why I didn't smell omega. Cal had fuckingspayedhim like a damned pet dog.

Son of a bitch.
