Chapter Seven
Colt
"Colt! Wake up!"
The panic in Seb's voice jerked me out of the dream world I was drifting in and snapped me wide awake.
"What?" I sprang out of the bed and landed in a crouch beside it, my inner beast ready to claw forward.
"It's Sky," Seb nearly shouted at me, rifling frantically through the supplies laid out on the table. "We're losing him!"
"What?" I shook my head, certain I couldn't have heard him right.
"His fever spiked," Seb choked out. "I can't wake him."
Shit.
"What do you need me to do?"
I..I don't know," Seb admitted, still pawing through the supplies littering the table. "Finally!"
Turning back to the bed, he shoved a section of bandage aside and poked a needle into the unmoving Omega's right thigh, pressing the plunger down. "Come on, Sky!"
The door flew open and Alrick stormed in, his gun at the ready. "What's wrong?"
"Put that away," Seb muttered, his eyes on Sky. "It's not that kind of emergency." Seb and I both caught our breath when a faint moan came from the body on the bed. "Colt, we've got to get him to a hospital or he's going to die."
Before I could respond, Sky's eyes opened and flickered around the room wildly. "No! Promised!"
The words were garbled but identifiable. "He doesn't want to, Seb. I did promise him." I stared at Sky helplessly.
"Colt!" Seb snapped at me. "He's fucking delirious! He's not in any frame of mind to make that decision."
"Can you bring him out of it, Seb? At least long enough for him to make a rational decision?"
Sebastian shook his head. "He's human, Colt. He's not as strong as a shifter. And there has to be additional interior damage for him to have gotten worse so fast. There's no other excuse."
Oh, fuck.
"It was me."
"Huh?" Seb's eyes snapped to mine. "What's that mean? You did this to him?"
"What? No! Of course not," I huffed. "But when he woke up earlier, he was, ahem, uncomfortable."
Now Alrick and Seb were both staring at me. "He had a raging hard-on. I blew him."
Whatever I'd been expecting, it wasn't for Sebastian to burst into laughter.
"That didn't cause it, Colt," he assured me between giggles. "Seriously. It couldn't have." After a minute, Sebastian dried his eyes. "I'm sorry."
I shrugged, pretending that my face wasn't lobster red. "What are we going to do?"
"You promised," Sky mumbled again.
He's not as strong as a shifter..Seb's words throbbed in my brain and the seed of a terrible idea began to sprout. "You two need to leave," I ordered. "I need a minute alone with him."
Seb opened his mouth to argue, but Alrick shook his head and gestured him out the still-open door. From the strained look on Alrick's face, I was pretty sure that he knew exactly what I was thinking.
