Chapter Nineteen

Trevor

It was late – or early, depending on one's perspective – but I wasn't tired, so I was still sitting at the kitchen table when a light rapping on the front door caught my attention. I was about ten steps from it when Colby shoved it open.

"Hey." He held up a jumbo box of my favorite animal crackers. "Want some company?"

Even in my depressed state, I couldn't help but laugh. "Absolutely." He followed me back into the kitchen and raised a brow at the teacup on the table. "It's just hot water and honey," I assured him with a laugh. "Want some?"

One of my favorite things about my friendship with Colby was how easily our very different personalities meshed, and it was only a few minutes before we were back at the table, the animal crackers dumped into a large bowl in front of us as we mock-argued about the order in which they should be eaten.

"That's just silly," Colby huffed in response to my claim of the monkey cookie tasting the best. He waved a hippo in the air. "Everyone knows hippos.." he trailed off as another knock came at the front door. "Are you expecting someone else?"

I laughed. "How could I be expecting someoneelsewhen I wasn't even expectingyou?"

Colby rolled his expressive blue eyes and trailed along behind me as I walked over to answer it. When Cian and Spencer walked in, I caught his eye, and he shook his head. He didn't know why they were there either.

"Come on in," I invited. "Why don't we sit on the couch?"

"I'll grab the cookies," Colby murmured on his way to the kitchen. He returned with the bowl and several bottles of water which he piled in the center of the table. We were still working on getting the greetings and small talk out of the way – after all, it's really never polite toask why are you here?as soon as someone arrives – when the sound of tires crunching on the drive outside caught Colby's attention.

"Thane," he said succinctly, "and Kenny."

"Oh!" Spencer covered his mouth with his hand. "I didn't know you had plans. I should have called first."

Suspicious, I tilted my head. "You didn't know they were coming?" I looked at Colby. "You didn't know any of them were coming?"

All three Omegas shook their heads as we waited for the knock at the door.

Thane and Kenny looked just as surprised to see the crowd in the living room as we'd been to see them, but before we could even address the greetings, the door opened again, and Quinn wandered in.

"Hey," he smiled at everyone. "It looks like I'm crashing a party!"

I laughed. "You and everyone else," I told him. "I thought it was gonna be a quiet morning at home and then it rained Omegas!"

Everyone laughed as Colby returned to the kitchen for more water.

"Umm, I brought something," Kenny said in his perpetually soft voice as he held out a plain brown paper bag.

"Oh! I hope it's licorice!" I teased him.

"Or cinnamon bears!" Colby chimed in.

Kenny blushed red but still laughed with us. "It's both," he confirmed shyly.

"Yum!" I emptied the bag out on the table by the cookies. "Dig in, guys. We can't have a party without snacks."

"You're having a party without me?" Sebastian's cheerful voice came from the door. "Door wasn't closed all the way, so I let myself in."

"Seb! I thought you were still up north?" I asked curiously. "When did you get back?"

"Well, we are, kind of," Seb answered. "It’s a little confusing," he admitted. "I just really felt like I needed to see you." He scuffed the floor with the toe of his boot. "Like maybe you needed me. So Alrich decided we could take a couple of days off without it affecting anything."

A sudden silence filled the room as the Omegas all looked from one to another, nodding in agreement.

"You all came because you thought I needed you?"

Several nods and a few affirming words. I looked to Colby and he shrugged. "You always need me."
