Chapter Seventeen

Win’s gaze shifted from the ground to the trees…everywhere but on him. Elliot’s heart raced.

What the hell is going on?

Still unable to look him straight in the eye, Win cleared his throat. “That first time we met, when I made the arrest? I, uh, I saw that list.”

“What?” His ears ached from his screech.

Oh, fuck.

Finally Win made eye contact, but as he continued to explain, Elliot wished for nothing more than the ground to open up and swallow him.

“You had a list of what made Elliot Hansen’s perfect man.”

“Shit. I knew I should’ve killed Spencer for writing it, or at least tossed it right into the trash where it belonged. I can’t believe you saw that.” Humiliated, he turned away from Win. Though he hadn’t looked at that list in weeks, he remembered enough:

Hung like a horse

That V

Perfect ass

How could he ever face Win again, knowing he’d seen it? He was so going to kill Spencer.

“Why? I think it was pretty amazing.” Win’s arms wrapped around him. “It let me know what I needed to do to win you over.”

“You had me at ‘Freeze, don’t move.’”

Win snickered. “You were terrified, who’re you kidding?”

“Hell, yeah. Terrified but turned-on.”

“So you’ve said. You like a little role-playing of a hot cop rescuing you from the bad guys? I can arrange that.” Arms linked, they settled themselves on the steps of Win’s porch. Win kissed his neck, and despite a morning filled with incredible sex to the point of exhaustion, Elliot wanted him again. He suspected there would never be a day when he didn’t desire Winston Rogers.

“Fishing for compliments? Who doesn’t want a badass gorgeous cop in his bedroom in the middle of the night?”

“Mmm. Maybe we’ll have to delve deeper into your fantasy.”

Who needs fantasy when you’re my reality?

Laugh lines crinkled the corners of Win’s eyes, and Elliot’s heart soared. God, he was in so deep, but he struggled to remain casual. No need to scare Win off with any intense emotions when they were still feeling their way back to each other.

“First of all, how did you see that list?”

“It was on your nightstand. When you went to the bathroom, I caught a glimpse of it, and couldn’t help reading the whole thing. I thought you were pretty hot too, and once I read that list, figured maybe we could see if we could get together.” He took Elliot’s hand in his and drew him close. “It wasn’t a scheme to get you into bed.”

“As long as it wasn’t a game for you.”

“What? Following the things on your list?” At Elliot’s nod, Win held him tighter. “Hell, no. Besides, all the physical stuff was crossed out, so I guessed that part was a joke. I wanted you from the start, and the list helped me make sure I didn’t screw up with you. It wasn’t a game. None of this is. Don’t be angry with me.”

“I’m more embarrassed than angry.”

“Don’t be embarrassed. I should thank Spencer. It brought us together. So? Do I meet the qualifications?” Win’s hot breath in his ear made it impossible for Elliot to see or think. “Hung like a horse…that V…” It might’ve been warm outside, but he shivered under Win’s touch. “That ass.”

“Met and exceeded. And don’t ever thank Spencer for anything. Please. You’ll never live it down.”

Win’s laughter rumbled through him. “He seems like a fun guy. Must be nice to have a close circle.”
