“I have the tallies to go through for the night. Let me get them for you.” My hope was that Frisco would get tired of waiting and leave.
Mike waved me off and started to print out the night’s receipts. “No way. Get out of here. I’ll close up. Mom is going over to stay with Tina, and Val is coming by, so we’ll go through it all. Go home and go to sleep. It’s been a stressful night.”
To say the least. I slipped my jacket on, and Frisco, who’d already removed his dirty apron, had retrieved his expensive leather jacket and stood waiting by the door. He gave me a bright smile but I ignored him.
I hoped he wasn’t waiting for me, because I had no intention of letting him into my bed tonight.
Ignoring him, I hugged Mike. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Unusually serious, Mike held me by the shoulders. “I don’t know why, but he’s giving me funny vibes. Be careful.”
“Who, Frisco?”
“Yeah. Who can’t be found on Google these days? A guy that rich? Something doesn’t smell right.”
“What’re you thinking?” My gaze darted to the entrance, where Frisco now leaned against the doorframe checking his phone. I lowered my voice a bit. “You think he’s involved in something shady…maybe illegal?” It didn’t seem possible until Mike brought it up, but now he’d planted the idea in my head. It was possible. Anything was these days. I scratched my chin. “I didn’t get that feeling from him.”
“Dude, he wants in your pants. Of course he’s gonna sweet-talk you. He’s rich, so he’s used to getting what he wants. All I’m saying is be careful.”
My face burned at his words, and I squared my shoulders. “Don’t worry. You can fool me once, but I’m not stupid. I made the mistake of jumping too soon with Pete, but I’m never going to fall for that again.”
