“Ahhh.” Adam cried out, and Rico felt him come, his cock caught between their sweating bodies as he trembled and shook beneath him, his muscles clamping tight on Rico’s dick. He was beautiful to see in his raw, uninhibited state, and Rico couldn’t look away.

“Fucking hell.” Rico managed a few more thrusts before the orgasm threatening to overtake him engulfed him and he came, shooting hard and endlessly into the condom. He collapsed over Adam, drenched in sweat and come, thoroughly exhausted yet shocked at the intensity of the sex between them. The moment he’d entered Adam, Rico blew up like a fireball exploding into the sky.

Content as he was to lie atop Adam, Rico knew he must be heavy, so he rolled to the side only to be forestalled by Adam, who held on to him tight.

“Don’t. I like it.”

A bit uneasy but too drained to put up much of a protest, Rico eased out of Adam and tossed the full condom into the wastebasket by the bed before returning to Adam, happy to stay in his bed and feeling no urgency to get up, get out, and leave. Funny how lying there with Adam gave him peace.

“Just gonna rest for a minute.”

He closed his eyes, thinking how nice it felt to have someone hold him for once.

Chapter Two

Coming off atwelve-hour shift normally meant grabbing something to eat, then going home and crashing. But Adam had been unable to get Rico Estevez out of his head. The first time he saw the sexy caterer, he was handing out bottles of water at the synagogue fire, and Adam couldn’t take his eyes off Rico’s dark eyes crinkled from laughter, muscular arms straining under his thin sweater, and bright smile flashing in the sun. Adam was hooked, and he didn’t even mind Rico’s partner, Gideon, teasing them both.

When he discovered the catering business was located only blocks from his firehouse, Adam made it a point to stop by every day. It took weeks to simply get Rico to talk to him and agree to meet after work. Adam almost cheered. Taking him home and being fucked until he almost blew apart was a bonus Adam never expected. He’d hoped for a little kissing or possible groping, but once Rico touched him, Adam lost control.

Wincing at the soreness in his ass, Adam still reveled in the feeling, knowing it was worth it after the night he had. Good thing he had the day off to recover, and hopefully Rico might be enticed to spend if not all day, at least the morning with him before going into his store. Adam rolled over, hoping to grab a good-morning kiss, but to his dismay, the bed was empty and the sheets cool to the touch.

“Fuck.” He fell back onto the pillow, not too surprised at Rico bailing. The man was secretive and self-contained, but all that did was make him hotter than hell. Adam knew if he wanted a repeat with Rico, he’d have to go slow. Nothing turned off a man like that more than being chased.

Except Adam wasn’t good at going slow. When he saw something or someone he wanted, he went after it, holding nothing back. And damn it, Adam couldn’t recall the last time he wanted a man like he wanted Rico. Not in years.

Ignoring the throb of pain in his chest, Adam forced himself to look forward. He’d been somewhat successful at putting aside the perpetual anguish living inside him. Even his dreams had almost stopped betraying him, and while never happy, he’d learned to survive them.

The little taste he’d had of Rico would only hold him so long. He’d planned on hanging out with some of the guys from his house that night, but perhaps he should hunt down the mysterious caterer and see if they could plan a repeat performance. At that thought, his dick twitched and hardened.

Adam threw back the covers and with a grunt he stood, eyeing the mess of dried come on his chest.Better get in the shower and get moving, Adam thought as he eyed the clock and saw it was past ten thirty. Rico’s store opened at twelve, and he planned on being there. If nothing else, Rico owed him an explanation of why he’d left Adam’s bed like a trick he’d picked up at a club, instead of someone he sort of knew. He’d always believed himself a good judge of character, and he’d bet that behind those gorgeous dark eyes hid some heavy stuff Rico didn’t talk about, not even to his best friend, Gideon.

After showering and getting dressed, Adam munched on a bagel and called home.

“Hey, Daddy.”

“Adam. How are ya?”

“Pretty good. Off shift today. Gonna hang around, catch up on some bills. What about you? How’s Mama?”

“I’m good.” She broke into the conversation. “Missing you, but you sound good.”

“I am good.”

“Better than if you were still home?”

“Mama…”

“Now, Grace,” said his father. “Adam’s a grown man, living his life. He’s doing good. Don’t make him feel all guilty and such.”

“Thanks, Daddy,” Adam whispered. He didn’t need his mother to make him feel guilty. He lived with it every day.

“I didn’t mean to. I just miss you, that’s all.” She paused, and he knew what was coming. “Been going out? Have you met anybody lately?”

The taste of Rico still lingered on his tongue, hot and sweet, and he quivered remembering Rico pinning him to the bed while their mouths ravaged each other with harsh and brutal kisses.

“Nope. Been too busy.”

“You’re never too busy to fall in love.”
