Some of us just come to the conclusion party later than others.
Take these four guys coming out of their apartment, for example. They had no clue how badly they’d fucked up. They had no clue how close death stood to them.
The when, where, how was already decided hours ago.
No one even thought about touching what belonged to me without retribution.
Some would say these four guys were evil. I was doing the world a favor.
I wasn’t a vigilante. I killed good people too. Or as good as they made them in my world. But this time—the sweet taste that coated my tongue in the car earlier seemed to rush through my veins as I followed behind them in the darkness.
It was a strange sensation. This high. Almost like tasting love for the first time when it had never been on my plate before. Never even offered to me. But that was what I felt as the four headed to their local bar in Queens. Clustered together like fucking adolescent teens in need of some fun. They were laughing, hahahahaha, thinking they’d gotten away with what they’d done.
“And we live to see another day, gentlemen!”
I allowed them to go in for a few drinks. One of them even got a little wild by standing on the bar, a wedge of lime in his mouth, flexing his muscles while the entire bar cheered him on.
I grinned. If this was where he wanted to be right before his world ended, so be it. Unlike Abe, I was going to let the four enjoy some dessert, so the last thing they remembered was the taste of true bitterness.
Two hours later and the party was still going strong. But one of the skeletons was looking for a different kind of fun. He walked out with his arm around a girl, leading her to the side of the building. He even opened the gate for her.
“What a fucking gentleman,” I said, stepping away from the tree and crossing the street. As I did, I slid my gloves on.
“No! I don’t want to do this anymore. Why aretheyhere? NO! I said NO!”
The girl’s screams started to penetrate the night, but as loud as the music was in the bar, it helped drown her out some. Then her screams became muffled, as someone tried to keep her quiet by squeezing a hand around her mouth.
The scene came alive as I slid past the gate without any of them noticing me.
“Hurry up!” one of them yelled to the one who had the girl pinned. “The bitch is loud!”
His pants were already pulled down, but she was putting up a good fight. She was drunk, though, and even with the fight, he had her trapped.
“Knock her out,” another one said. “We’ll act like she passed out and are bringing her home.”
“Yeah, no one will even notice. Everyone inside knew she was close to fucking plastered.”
Leaning against the building, I ticked my mouth and shook my head.
The one who had the girl pinned was the only one who’d heard me. Surprised, he released the girl’s mouth, and she screamed as loud as she could, especially when I pulled out my gun and shot him straight through the temple, the sound muffled by the silencer.
That old saying, “never get caught with your pants down,” was made for this fucking bum.
It would have been more personal to have gotten closer, but I was getting to that part.
The blood splattered the girl’s face, and the skeleton’s body fell against her, pinning her again. She quieted, her eyes wide, but I knew it was coming. As she opened her mouth to let out another blood-curdling cry, I said, “Go home.”
She didn’t waste a second. She pushed the dead guy back and took off, stumbling every so often as she tried to run.
“What did I say last night, ah?Le scelte hanno conseguenze.Choices have consequences.” I looked at the other three, who were slowly taking steps backwards, trying to reach the back exit of the building. “That’s why it’s wise not to fuck with people. Because you never know if the one you fuck with has someone who will kill for them. The girl you fucked with last night? She comes with consequences. She comes with me.”
One of the guys turned to run, but one bullet to the back of his skull sent him stumbling forward. The other two froze.
“We’re sorry!” one of them trembled out. “We-we told you that l-l-last n-n-night!”
“You have anything else to say?”
They looked at each other, and then started stumbling over each other’s words.I’ll never do it again—It was a big mistake—We were wrong—
