“You sure?” She gripped my arm gently, and I pushed her again with a laugh.
“Of course I’m sure. Now go.” I turned back to the men. “Let’s get through all of this.”
“In a rush?” My father chuckled.
I just nodded as my smile dropped from my face. “We have a lot of questioning to do.” I pointed to all the guards still on the ground.
Rowan grabbed my hand. “My guards can handle the questioning.”
I smiled up at him. “Of the guards…of course.” I looked over my shoulder at the house. “Of Yarrow and Theo…no fucking way.”
My dad walked closer. “You don’t need to be involved with the others either.”
I clasped my father’s hand. “But I do.”
“Why?” My father cupped my face. “I would protect you from this if I could.”
“I know, Daddy. But these men…these wolves have used their power to abuse those under them. They sold our kind, killed our race, and then thought they could get away scot-free.” I felt Nix’s flash into my eyes. “They have many questions to answer.” My magic jumped to my fingers, and Rowan’s hands slid into mine, snuffing the flames that ignited on my palm.
“Okay.” He smiled. “This should be interesting.”
My father’s eyes were a little wide. “I’ve never thought of using my magic to question someone. Tell me you’re not planning on it.”
I looked at him but kept my lips shut. “And why not?”
My father looked a little green. “Because that’s not what it is meant to do.”
I let my anger fill my eyes. “But-”
“Your father has my outlook on magic, my love.” My grandmother’s voice whispered through the air, and by the way my father jumped, he heard it too. “And while I would always teach him to use his magic for protection, for love, and for safety. He doesn’t see that is exactly what you are trying to do.” Shesighed. “Do what you must. Only you can decide how dark you are willing to get to save the world.”
Chapter Forty-Two
My father choked. “Save the world?” His eyes jumped from my face to Rowan’s. “What the hell is she talking about, Amy?”
I blew out a breath. “Well, all of this bullshit for one.” I waved my hand around the group of men on the ground. “But after everything we just saw…do you honestly have to ask?” I shook my head at him. “They are taking our wolves.” The words hit the crowd, and murmurs started almost instantly.
My father leaned in. “Lower your voice. We don’t want to scare them.”
I looked at Rowan, and he kissed my forehead. “I trust your judgement.” I smiled and wanted to kiss him.
“That’s why I mated you.” I kissed him before I turned to everyone gathered, and then at the last minute, I opened my mind-link for the pack.
I can project to all wolves around us.Nix offered.
That’s not possible.I stared at my wolves as they laughed.
That’s where you draw the line?Megan’s voice was soft and breathy. Like she was about to fall asleep. You have magic; you are unofficially the queen. And you’re Goddess Blessed, you can do whatever you feel like.Megan shifted her head.I’m almost positive that if you focused, you could broadcast your mind-link to every wolf in this country…maybe the world.
My mouth dropped open at her words. There is no way that’s possible.I turned back to Nix.But do it. I want everyone here to know.Nix nodded, and I felt something push out. It felt almost as if I were blowing a bubble; it felt tentative, and very fragile.
“Hear me. Silvermoon, and those near, and believe what I tell you is the truth as I know it at this time.”
“Amy.” My dad reached for me with wide eyes, but I shook my head.
Silas frowned. “This shouldn’t be possible.”
Ronnie laughed. “Most of what she does shouldn’t be possible.” He pointed to the glowing mark on my forehead, and I felt the telltale sign that my mark was growing. But I ignored it. I had something more important to focus on.
