He chuckles. “Wouldn’t pepper spray be more practical?”

“Perhaps.” I look up at him. “But she believed reading a man’s palm would give us guidance as to whether he had good or bad intentions.”

“Oh, that.” His voice drops to a whisper as his free hand slides to my waist. “Well, let me save you the trouble. My intentions for you are positively wicked.”

He moves closer, his hand moving into my hair. My heart races as he leans in for a kiss, and I give myself to him without question.

CHAPTER 9

SLAYER

Bix feels delicious as I grasp her, all silky skin and warm flesh.

Our bodies press together on the sofa, the white leather cradling us. I kiss her lightly at first, then deeper, claiming her mouth with an urgency that surprises even me.

Her lips taste sweet with a hint of wild cherry, more intoxicating than any wine in my collection.

When I suck her bottom lip between my teeth, she makes a sighing, moaning sound that ignites something primal in me.

It’s been too long since I’ve felt this immediate connection with a woman, this raw chemistry that has nothing to do with my name or my bank account.

I want to protect her and possess her at the same time. I want to keep her in my apartment and never let her go.

But that can't be.

Not with my divorce-from-hell looming and my album launching this weekend.

If it's a success, promoting it will consume every second of my time. And if it's a failure, well, the Dark Prince might have to disappear into thin air.

I push those black thoughts aside to focus on Bix and her gorgeous body. My hand glides over her curves, finding its way to her breast.

I cup the perfect weight of it through her dress, and her back arches as she presses into me, demanding more.

I venture beneath the fabric, trailing my fingers across her taut skin. Her breath quickens as I explore her perfectly proportioned curves. Then I move to her inner thigh.

Bix responds to every touch like she’s my puppet. Her skin flushes pink with pleasure, and as I trace patterns on her inner thigh, she trembles.

I inch upward, feeling her heat intensify as another soft moan escapes her lips.

This woman is pure fire.

She breaks away, smiling up at me, green eyes sparkling with desire.

I’m only too eager. But Bix isn’t like the other women I’ve brought home or met on the road. She doesn’t seem the type to sleep with a man in a one-night-stand situation.

“Bix, I need to be clear with you. My professional life is complicated. If we take things further, you have to understand, it’s just for tonight.”

“What makes you think I want more than that?”

“Most women want more.”

“I’m not most women,” she says, her fingers tracing a path up my arm. “And after that kiss, I know exactly what I want.”

“And what’s that?”

“You.Just for now. Just for tonight.”

I study her face, looking for the lie, the hidden motive.
