“Molly, keep going, but if you hear them getting near we need to hunker down low and stay quiet.”
“Yeah, thankfully it’s still relatively dark.” Molly takes off again, and she is as low as she can be without moving onto her hands and feet.
We cover a lot of ground in a short space of time, but when loud footsteps pound behind us, I roll us under the row of corn and place my hand over Molly’s mouth. I place my lips next to her ear and whisper, “Breathe slow, don’t make a noise.” Molly gives mea small head nod, and I tuck the side of my face into her neck, watching the row in front of us for feet.
Voices near, some shouting and some speaking loudly.
“Do you see them?”
“No. But they can’t have gone far.”
“I’m gonna kill the fucker when we find him.”
“This is war now. You realize that don’t you, Fink?”
“Who cares? I’ve got myself a nice new hog outta this.”
Now that pisses me off, and I’ll remember Fink and his fucking voice for when we go to war. I’ll get my girl back, and his balls to wear around my neck.
They move past, and I feel Molly stiffen as they do, but she makes no noise. I’m damned impressed with her as she’s done everything to help get away without dropping us in the shit with a stupid move.
We must stay still for thirty minutes before we move along the row. I hold Molly’s hand and guide her behind me. We have to stay low as daylight is hitting us now. If we make a slip and they are near, they will see us and be on us before we can get away.
We’ve left the farmer's field well behind now, and we are hitting the back of Stirlingsville. It’s a quiet town, and I am positive it's been under threat from the Broken Cobras MC over the last few years. Maybe it’s time we, the Bitter Slayers MC took a stand and expanded our territory.
Taking a moment behind a shop, we lean our backs against the wall. “You doing okay, Molly?”
Puffing like a train, Molly snorts. “If you think this is doing okay, then you need your head sorted out. I’ve had it. I’m not sure how much more running I can do. But if we get out of this mess, I’m gonna kill my stepsister, then I’m taking up running. Lots and lots of running.”
The back door of the shop opens, and a young man steps outside, carrying a black trash bag. He comes to a halt, looks around quickly and after dashing out to throw the trash bag he steps toward us. “You need to hide. You can’t stay there or they’ll find you. If you trust me to come inside, I’ll hide you in the apartment upstairs until nightfall. But hurry because I don’t want to get caught helping you.”
Molly nods her head that yeah, we should trust him. I’m not sure, but when he fidgets and looks like he wants to bolt I agree. We follow him into the back of the shop and up a flight of stairs. Opening a door, he waves us inside. “This is where I live, and nobody comes up here. Find yourselves a drink, something to eat, and you can freshen up. The best time to get out of town is around three in the morning. That’s when the dump they call a clubhouse quiets down, and I reckon they all pass out. During the day and evening, they have people patrolling around the town.”
“Do you have a phone I can use? I need to contact my Pres,” I ask, hoping against hope he has a mobile phone.
“Oh yes, sorry.” Handing me a phone, he looks embarrassed, but I give him a nod of thanks.
“Name’s Breaker, and this is Molly.” I don’t go further with the explanation.
“I’m Randy, but I hate it, so everyone calls me Andy.” Again, he looks embarrassed.
“Well, I’d probably call myself Andy too, because I can bet you’ve had more than your share of ribbing.” I chuckle as I can imagine the piss that he has had taken out of him.
I watch as Molly disappears to what I imagine is a bathroom, and I take the phone Andy hands to me. “Thanks for helping. You did not need to put yourself in danger. Why did you?”
Andy rubs the back of his neck. “I hate them. I was engaged to be married, and after they came to town, they took my woman and made her a whore in their club. She’s now had so many men I would not want her as my wife. I know these days people don’t care how many people someone has slept with, but I’ve only been with Rita, no others before or since. I wanted to be clean for my woman, and her clean for me. By that I mean we had no exes to be jealous of or worried about. Now she walks around with hardly any clothes on, strutting around like the whore she is. I hate them for what they have done, and what they took from me.”
I slap his shoulder. “I know what you’re saying. I’ve been with too many women, and hope eventually when I find my woman she’ll be able to look past it.”
Molly returns and walks past, giving me a shake of the head as though to say, what an idiot.Grinning, I turn to Andy. “Thanks, I’ll only be a few minutes on the phone. I need to contact my brothers before they come looking and causing a war when they do.”
It takes two rings before Pres picks up the call. “Who the fuck is this?” Whack snarls.
“Pres, it’s Breaker.”
Before I can say more I get snarled at again. “Where the fuck are you? We’ve been all over town looking for you. If you are in some cunt's bed, I’ll nail you to the fucking boards.”
“No Pres. I was ambushed and taken down by the Broken Cobras MC. They’ve got my fuckin’ hog. I got away with the help of a woman they had taken, and we’ve made it to Stirlingsville. I’m not sure exactly where we are, but we are safe for now.” Turning to look at Andy, who is standing near the door trying to ignore what I’m saying. “What shop is this, Andy?” I ask.
